Nike + Sportband

Recommended Posts

Anyone using one of these for running? I stayed away from the ipod one because i dont like ipods. But the new one seems way nice.

Mixed reviews online. Only 59.99 though! go to nikeplus.com to check it out.

Also how do you put the sensor in your shoe if its not a nike one? Just put it on the laces somehow?

I bought one of these the other day and they are fantastic. I was deciding between this and the bodybugg and figured this would be more helpful in my Quest toward the half and full marathons. I did go with the ipod only because I need a new mp3 player...but I don't like ipods at all...not a big apple fan.

But the nike + is great! You can publish it for the world to see (I put mine on my blog) so it keeps you motivated to run the distance that you said you were going to. I just bought a new pair of 100$ shoes that were professionally fitted, so I was not going to buy Nike's. You can buy a marware pouch (I think LJM said to look on amazon) or you can make a little pouch like I did and attach it to your shoe laces. Cost me exactly 0.00$ I took an old t-shirt (that I had shrunk out of), cut out a rectangle, folded it in half, sewed it into a pouch, stuck the sensor inside and finished sewing it up. Then I took another piece of fabric and sewed a loop on it so that I could run my laces through it. I tried attaching a picture but it is not letting me right now. I will keep trying!

Thanks Salsa. Yeah i have seen pouchs for 5 dollars on ebay for them.

Good info!

The only thing I read about the pouches is to make sure that the brand does not have a clip made of plastic as it can get brittle and break off and there you go having to buy the sensor again! This stupid thing won't let me post pictures!

You are welcome. If you want more info losingjusme has had one for a while. She was the one that suggested it to me!

I am doing great. My half-marathon is tomorrow! It is supposed to be 97 degrees here.:) The race starts at 8AM so I should be done by 10:45 so hopefully it won't be too hot. Most of the course is in the shade. I haven't seen the last 5 miles though.

As for the challenge, you should PM losingjusme and join our challenge. I already have 100+ miles logged, but I won't be able to do anything for a while. Everyone else has less than 30 logged so you should be able to catch up to them shortly.

As for the surgery...I am not worried at all. I guess I have been worrying much more about the run...which was why I decided to run it. My birthday is on the 1st and then I guess I will have to worry about the surgery on the 2nd. I am glad that I kept myself busy before surgery. Not a lot of time to fret about it!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
