Sleeping quirks

Recommended Posts

Okay, can't stay away from this thread, sleep is dear to my heart:tt1:

First of all, can't relate to the foot out of the covers group, got to have that foot covered! God knows or Great pumpkin, what creature would chew it off.

Secondly, I think I have some claustrophobic issues and cannot for the life of me sleep with a tucked in blanket and sheet. I've solved a problem that has been causing me sleep issues for years by having separate sheets and blankets for my DH and myself. We still sleep in the same bed, but have our own set of sheets etc... And I don't make the bed with the sheets I fold them or put them in a pile in the closet when I make the bed, well I will since my MIL is coming on Thursday:lol: It really has made a world of difference for me.

Thirdly I did have a sleep study done and was found to have apneas so I sleep with a nasal mask with my CPAP machine since I flunked my pulmonary test prior to getting the surgery. Go figure I wouldn't do well with something:rolleyes2:.

I also sleep with a fan and has caused an addiction to fans.:tongue2: So now when I go anywhere have to bring the CPAP machine and the fan.

Now on the pillow issue, I too prefer the cold side of the pillow which is always opposite of the side you're sleeping on so I tend to flip. During my sleep study I did flip MR. PLAIN, even though it was hard with all the hooziemagachies all over my head and body:closedeyes:. Supposedly I fell asleep even though I was sure I never did, and never drive yourself home after one of those studies:closedeyes:!

Also on pillows and this is the last word, sorry to be so  but I once heard someone, I think it was a star or someone famous say they couldn't sleep with the open part of the pillow facing them, doesn't sound right now that I've typed it but I swear to you ever since I heard that I now cannot sleep with the open part of my pillow facing my face, side sleeper's united:w00t:

Clinically speaking (and I hope I'm not getting too technical here) you are clearly insane. :tongue2:

Ok heres a question for all the quirky sleepers. I find that no matter where in the room the bed is placed I will adjust to sleep facing the door? Like right now I sleep mostly on my right side which faces the bedroom door. But before we moved in to this apartment I slept on my left side which was facing the door. lol. Side of the bed doesn't seem to matter though just which side faces the bedroom door.

I'd say that was a slight nervousness/fear of intruders - wanting to be able to see them coming? Just as many people will choose to sit facing the door in a restaurant and hate having to sit where someone can easily come up on them from behind.

After thinking about it I guess I do have a couple more *sleeping quirks* This last year I've had to learn to live with diabetic neurapthy(sp?) So while I like to have my sheet I sleep under tucked in it HAS to be lose since my toes already feel so weird as it is I can't handle heavy or tight covers on them.

Also I can't wear pajamas, pants, undies of anytype to bed they get twisted and uncomfortable so I mostly wear long lightweight gowns. I also cannot sleep in the nude lol. I had a rule when my kids were younger of never having a locked/closed bedroom door.

My daughter sleepwalked and my youngest (jay now 13) had major issues sleeping alone, so since me and my ex still lived together but slept seperatly for the last few years of our relationship Jay slept with me till we moved out in 2000.

It was closed and locked while anything was going on but I always got back up and made sure it was unlocked/cracked open afterwards. And the night gown on and BF decent.

Now we just keep doing it because of our cat who will rattle the door all night long if we close it. Or howl. lol

It's funny I am just now learning to sleep with any kind of clothes on, but usually a tanktop and boxers are all I can do. I have no kids though.

I need the closet door shut to sleep, oh and I live in Louisiana so the pillow gets flipped an average of 79 times a night, and I usually don't cover up so much as ball the blanket into a tangled mess to cover one let and to hold the rest of it in my arms all night. A habit that has irratated all my bed fellows ever. Oh and I am a freak about pillows I trade them out all the time because a lumpy pillow is, to me, the cardinal sin of the night.

hehe No you're not insane. I think we all have our bed time quirks. Me, I can't stand silence in a room. ANY ROOM, but most especially the bedroom. I have a lil clock radio on and a fan. If it is quiet I can't sleep, and I will hear every creak, crick, snort, and sniffle in the house. Yeah, I can't sleep like that.

As for pillows at one time I was the pillow queen, I had 2 body pillows, 2 king pillows, 2 queen and 4 standard pillows. They all stayed on the bed and were used in some fashion. Now I am down to my 200 dollar specialty pillow (gawd I love that thing, I hope it never ever needs replacing) and two king size pillows for back and tummy.

Blankets, this is the weird part, I have to have one foot tucked under the blankets, the other half out half in the blanket. Then I have to be able to pull up a corner and hold on to it for some odd reason. Also, I have to start out my night on the left side, don't have to fall asleep on that side but I HAVE to start out on the left side. Yeah, I know ... weird LOL

I sleep with 3 normal pillows, and then a feather pillow on top that I curl up with. I adjust it frequently throughout the night!

DH likes to curl up in a coccoon with the blanket, so I would wake up with no blankets and freezing mid-night, so a couple years ago we bought a quilt. He gets the nice heavy comforter, and I got a quilt!! So then I had to buy another blanket.. now I have a quilt and then a down blanket on top of that, but I always have to keep one leg out to get air.. not my feet but my legs need to breathe hehe.

I am no feng shui master by all means and not as insane as Plain has pointed out prior in his thread about me. But, there are rules as to where your bed should be placed in a bedroom and where it shouldn't. You're not supposed to be in a vulnerable position for attack and basically your bed should not be a direct angle to your bedroom door. I suppose it could disrupt you sleep if it was placed directly in line with your door. Also I remember reading you shouldn't have heavy things hanging over your bed as they could fall on you and kill you and that could subconsciously bother your sleep.< /p>

Another thing I remember is not to keep stuff under your bed, something about cluttering your life. And this is all stuff that is kind of interesting and can be researched on line. HGTV used to have a show on Feng Shui decorating and may still have a link to their site. There are other ideas for romance in the bedroom and what colors to paint your bedroom. Skin tone colors are best they say. Anyway I found it interesting and always have loved learning about different cultures etc...

I MUST sleep with DH closest to the window. You never know what or who may access the house by spiderman-ing up 3 stories and into the bedroom (bypassing the front door which we sometimes forget to lock, and the open windows in other rooms). So, if DH is away, the spot on the bed closest to the window is vacant. In hotels with 2 beds, the bed furthest from the window is where I will sleep.< /p>

Multiple pillows?? You guys are nuts! One pillow, flipped to the cool side is the limit - the rest just become like cats in the bed - always in the way!

The opening for the pillow into the pillow slip MUST be facing the outside of the bed not inside. Didn't you guys know that was a rule??? Geez!

Brandy II - I never knew how to spell it "hooziemagachies" - thanks!

Well, it's one of many choices of spellings but I choose DH to be closest to the door but there's more of a chance of an attack from my door than my window. Plus I prefer the fresh air and the DH prefers no fresh air because he may get "the sniffles":cursing:

I can't remember exactly where I read it but over the years I have read many books on wiccan, feng shui, and other holistic books for having a tranquil living space and some of the things I recall about the bedroom are interesting. One was the bed should placed along the same lines as the home's energy flow. In some homes this is easy to determine especially if you have beams or any other lines visable in the room's ceiling/floor since energy is suposed to flow along the lines of the home/building. And your suposed to place your bed so it does not block or cross the flow. Other tips had to do with north/south and east/west facing. Placing a round mirror over the head of the bed if your having disturbing dreams. Certain herbs etc. for relaxation or to encourage dreaming. How different colors can affect the feel of a room. And not jsut the colors of the walls/furnishings but the colors of the lights are also suposed to have effects too.

I do know personally I have in the past had changing the way the bed was facing help with sleep troubles. Exactly why it helped I am not sure. For all I know it could have just been me beliving that the change could help.

I wish I hadn't had my my libary of books stolen years ago. So I could read them all again. lol

Not keep stuff under my bed???? Then I'd kill myself tripping over it leaving the room!!! My bed is wall to wall underneath, but apparently it doesn't bother me!!! It is mostly out of season clothing, in plastic bins. But I am sure there are lotsa dust bunnies under there too!!

I like my room quiet, and DARK! Even the alarm clock light, or the light on the DVD player----makes me crazy! I turn them away from me, or cover them all. DH likes to go to sleep with the TV on, so our marriage was saved by the sleep timer on our remote!

The only noise I like to hear at night, is I love sleeping while it storms outside. IF---really big IF --all those I love are home and not out in it!! Thunder and lightening, and wind blowing, while I am snuggled down in warm covers---I love it!!!

Not only do I have things under my bed, but a large ceiling fan over the bed!!

It is very quiet---worth every cent we spent on it! You never hear a thing, but you get a nice cool breeze from it....I love it! I swore I would hate it! There was an old one in there, and it was not well balanced, and made noise, and you could hear the motor....and to make matters worse---it was ugly!

This one, is fitting to our bedroom suite, has the same wrought Iron look, and is silent....and I admitted I was wrong!! I do love it!

Maybe I need to buy a round mirror for over the bed to offset all I am doing wrong.......nah, it would be cheaper to just stick my foot out of the covers, and flip my pillow a couple more times!!

Telecia,

My daughter was Wiccan for a few years and had/has tons of those types of books. I kind of got the impression from her that she thought the feng shui ideas were goofy so maybe there are conflicts between the two. I only know some of the basic ideas of feng shui because it gets pretty complicated. I also know you're not supposed to have a TV in the bedroom or anything with too much electric energy and if you have to have one you're supposed to keep it covered at night in an armoire or something that can be shut. Then there's all the sharp angle things and no dried flowers too much for me to handle!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
