My surgeon's office was also trying to insist that I buy their Protein shakes. I declined and went with myoplex lite instead, which was much cheaper by like 50%.

As far as the 2 week pre op diet went, mine consisted of a Protein shake for Breakfast, 1 for lunch, and a small dinner, a baked chicken breast and 2 cups of of green veggies. Daily totals were <1000/cals a day. It was rough, but I got through it and lost 12 lbs pre op.

My pro op iet consists of 2 protrien shakes a day, one meal that is 4 to 6 oz of meat and 1/2 cup of vegs (no corn or peas) for 2 weeks and all the Water and Clear Liquids i can drink. The protien shakes must have at least 20 grams of protien and no more then 5 grams of carbs. It sucks for sure and to make it worse, I am an assistant director of dining services at a private University so i am around GOOD food all day long that I can no longer enjoy.

I am just about to go to my Orientation meeting, the person I spoke to didn't say much about pre-op dieting, so I am learning it here. I am sure as I get closer I will be told more. It looks like it varies from person to person and doctor to doctor.

My BMI is about 36 and I have a large bone structure. I am 300 Pounds and 6'5". I am in good physical health other than my weight. Good cholesterol numbers and low blood pressure.

Is there anyone else out there in my position pre-op? Any chance they will deny me because I am not Chunky Enough?

I've been doing the South Beach Diet for the last 6 weeks and am down 21 pounds and have hit my pre-surgery weight goal.

For me the SBD is an excellent food plan that I am going to follow up to the point of surgery and post surgery as soon as I am back on solids.

Its a nice blend of healthy fats (olive oil, lean meats, etc) and healthy carbs (whole wheat tortillas, brown/wild rice, whole grain pastas etc) with none of the processed sugars and refined flour that packs on the pounds so easily.

I've never felt more energetic because I think my body uses those foods so much more efficiently and all my pants and shirts are a bit looser even after only 21 pounds.

As long as I hit the pre-surgical weight I am not required to do a pre-op liquid diet for additional loss.

My doctor’s office said I need to buy the food from them which is 5-6 meals a day of boxed foods such as chicken noodle, chicken Pasta, shakes or puddings, bars, eggs, ECT... I am on a 3 week diet to get my BMI down around 50, and shrink my liver. The cost is 85.00 a week for the food I bought 2 weeks on the day of my pre surgery testing. Day one I tried the eggs, chicken noodle Soup, and strawberry pudding/ shake, one was worse than the next. So I researched pre-op diets for lap-band® and found high Protein, low fat, low carbs, and low sugar should do the trick. Results 395lbs on June 7th and 381lbs on June 13th, and BMI went from 54 to 51 in 6 days. I will do the liquid diet the last 3 days before surgery. I just wish I could stick to this diet and would not have to have the surgery, but the band is a tool I really feel I need to help me control portions.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
