Exude, you look great. I hope you are feeling better. That is a LOT to go through in one month!

About scars: My scars itch like mad. Tonight I am going to have my hubby help me cover them with gauze and tape because I am afraid I will scratch them in my sleep. They are also pretty red. All this is normal, I assume?

Syrah- how red ? some minor itchiness yes, normal, a little pink yes, normal-- red?? could be a sign of infection? Are they all healed up- any tiny portion open still? Are you using anything on them? I would have doc. take a look just in case. (I was banded 4-2-07)good luck.

Hi Jenna and Nana,

I got banded one week ago. (4/3/07) My bandage strips still have not fallen off. When does this happen? I'm curious to see what my scars look like.

Rvingdi-I am sensitive to adhesive- I was sent home with out bandages.... but had some intenal sutures and a "glue" like covering my incisions- it looked like super glue. It washed off already. I saw the doc. today and.... I can move on to mushies!!!

I was talking to my mom, who did not go through with gastric bypass five years ago, and said if only she was younger she would consider the band.... I think she is only one year older than you are... Are you doing well???? Did you start recovery well?? I would like to be able to tell her more about someone, who is not her daughters age. She did not seem convinced, when I said there are many ladies, who are older than 40-50 getting banded. Any info. for her might help and would definately be appreciated!

I can't remember exactly when the first pic was taken... Sometime within the first month post op.

The second was taken last week. I can only just see 2 of my 4 little scars. Only just. And my port scar, due to my Tummy Tuck, is now much smaller, and sort of in my belly button.

Hey! My surgery was 3/19 ans for about a month mine itched like crazy. I think it is a mixture of dehydration and irritation from the adhesive (or tape) I started using pure vit. E oil on them and they started feeling a lot better.

I chatted with you before your surgery. How did everything go? Have you lost anything yet? Hope all is well!

Oh yeah, also, if it starts itching really bad sometimes I would put a bag of ice in a towel and wet it a little and put the cold pack on the pklace where it itches and that helped too.

Hope that helps!

Jenny

My scars have been itching like crazy- especially the ones on my left side where my port incision is. :D The skin around them looked a bit dry, so this weekend I picked up some Aveeno moisturizer that's itch-soothing (I have chronically itchy legs during the winter, I use the same stuff for them). Today's the first day I used it and so far... no itching. :lunch: I'm gonna bug my fiance at dinner to take a pic of my scars- I still have some small scabs, but they're mostly healed.

One question- I have some scar treatment stuff I picked up, should I wait until my scabs and such are 100% healed before I use it? I don't want to make a bad situation worse. ;)

Ok here's mine.. this is 9 days post-op.

The port incision, the red dots on all 4 sides is what I'm guessing the tools they use to hold open the skin.. originally I thought it was needle holes, but after seeing it in a pic, doesn't look to be.

The bottom left incision (right in the pic) I did a doozy.. ripped band aid off and it left a burning welt on my side.. that's the worst of all this for now!!

They look darker in this pic than they really are, you can hardly notice them (except the ones with scabs are noticable). I also broke out into some sort of rash, I guess from the tape. Most of it's gone, but I think you can still see some dots around my tummy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
