Did you have weight problems as a child?

Recommended Posts

I thank puberty for my extra pounds. Until then (around age 12) I had been pretty average in size, although tall. Then came hips and boobs and all those other wonderful curves that make us female. From there, the only way to go was up, up, up.

Big baby (over 10lbs at birth), but was never fat as a child. I was however positively HUGE compared to my skeletal sister and brother. So although I wasn't fat, I thought I was; an earlier poster stated it - a self-fulfilling prophecy. By the twenties, after university the weight gain started. Slowly at first but then more and more. I would diet, lose some, gain more - most of us know the result. It took my 50th birthday for me to grow up or something and say 'enough is enough'.

My skeletal brother and sister still are, and not by intent or diet. They just are. But most times I forgive them this sin.

Thanks for all of the replies. I started gaining weight in first grade when my parents got divorced. I remember being so large that I couldn't fit in the little desks. One time I got stuck and when I tried to get out, the enitre desk flipped over. The entire class laughed and I was mortified. I am trying to do EVERYTHING I can to keep my daughters from going through what I went through. It helps to hear others stories.

I was a chubby baby and kid.

In my baby book, it asks the question....

Mom's First Words: She's so cute!

Dad's First Words: She's so big!

I was eight pounds at birth. Always teased for being fat, but when I look back at pictures of myself in elementary school, I was just a little overweight. In high school, I started gaining. Then, I got married (for the first time) at just 18. cRaZy! Gained a bit more, had a baby, gained a bit more.

I realllllly gained during my second marriage. I swear, we ate like teenagers whose parents were away for the weekend.

I think I started gaining weight for one reason...and kept eating because it was familiar and I didn't know what else to do to get that filled up feeling.

I am so ready for my surgery next week! :tongue_smilie:

I've been overweight my whole life. It makes it even more weird to think about me being skinny.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
