How is everyone? We have no power but sustained no damage. We have a portable 400w generator that allows a little time on the net and cell phone charging. We are trying to eat what we have in the freezer as much as we can.

We made it through ok. Power flickered off and on all night, then finally went out around 6:45 this morning. But it came back on almost exactly 7 hours later at 1:45. We have one good-sized limb down in our backyard, but it looks like all it did was nick one shingle. Our pool is FULL of leaves, and there is lots of debris on the ground. But I'm not going to complain. I think we got off pretty lightly.

Glad to hear you are doing ok Brown Bear, aside from not having power. I hope more folks will check in soon!

We made it through okay. ;) Our power just came back on about 30 minutes ago. It had been out since around 3 yesterday morning. Our backyard fence blew over in 3 places.. 1 because a neighbor's 2 trees fell over into our yard. Other than a whole lot of debris our house, plants, and everything else seems to be fine. :) I hope everyone else is doing okay as well!

And please welcome our newest Bandster...call her the Hurricane Bandster...misskitty84!!! Neither high winds nor storm surge kept her from being banded this week!

Aww BrownBear, that really sucks! I'll go out and try to push some power guys in your direction!

Regarding this Saturday, the college library is closed, so once again our meeting is postponed. I will call them as soon as they reopen and see if I can reserve a meeting room for NEXT Saturday, the 27th. I'm going to shoot for 2 PM again. Watch your email for exciting developments.. lol:tongue2:

Who is up for getting together this Saturday at 2 PM? Unfortunately, I was not able to get a meeting room at the library, so we'll still have to figure out a location. A Starbucks will work if there are 5 or 6 of us, but I think we'd need somewhere bigger if there are more. My sister and I ate the other day at Vida Loca on Kingsland Road, a block east of Mason (used to be Las Rosas). They have a really nice, big patio. I guess I'll wait and see how many people respond that they plan to attend, then we can decide from there. And if you have any suggestions of places to meet, please toss them out there!

I don't know about you all, but I could use some girl-chat time.

All right! Well, there are 4 of us so far, so I'm going to make it official and say we will meet at Vida Loca at 2 PM on this Saturday, September 27.

Anyone else is welcome to join us! Vida Loca is located one block east of Mason Rd. on Kingsland Blvd. It is behind the Kroger shopping center.

Now we need some way to recognize each other!

Hi, there, NW Bandsters...Anyone interested in meeting for the New Year?

I was thinking Saturday, January 10th.

Morning work best for me, but I am flexible and can do morning, afternoon or evenings.

Anyone in?

I'd love to, if I'm not in Mississippi. I'm going to visit my parents for a couple of weeks sometime in January, but I'm not sure when yet. But if I'm here, I'll be there! Any time works for me.

Great! I know I'm in town. :) My girl friends and I are getting together to watch Momma Mia Sat night. I've seen it, but I'd like to have a little Girl's Night In with it.

 Keep us posted whether you can or not. Thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
