This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!

I once got cained on this board for saying that had I had a gastric bypass (which I know we're not talking about here) I would have been saddened by the fact that it had come to that.
I once made the comment that if RNY were my only option, I'd still be fat. That didn't make me any friends.
by saying their body turns bad unhealthy food into good food
WTF? Are you serious? So DS has realized some kind of magical, gastrointestinal alchemist's dream. Amazing!

I don't know any DSers so I don't know if they stink. I do know lots of RNYers and I know that they're stinkier than your average Joe.

I don't think I'm stinkier than the next gal, but I guess they could complain about that "damn gurgling" sound I make sometimes.

Yep, dead serious.

I was trying to be polite in the beginning when they started attacking. I was saying that DS would not have been an option for me because when it comes to fast food, give me an inch and I'll take 10 miles. If I could go to Bugggar King twice weekly, I'd go two times daily. The band does not permit burgers so banding was a better option for me.

I was told it was okay to go to Bugggar King twice daily as DS turns unhealthy foods into healthy foods.

At that point I knew it was a lost cause. If they really believe that DS can absorb nutrition when there is none to be absorbed, how do you argue with that?

I'm not sure gurgling is nearly as offensive as stinky. ;o) Did you read the "Just a drop" lady when she wrote about curling the wallpaper in the bathroom? HA!

Oh holy Sh*t, this woman got WRITTEN UP AT WORK for her GAS.

question for those who had/have gas

And yes, I have had horrid gas. Was even written up at work because of it, and had co-workers make rude comments and accusations. I don't work there any more.

But no one told me, early on, how Probiotics would help, nor how carbs affect the issue. Once I got that going things settled quite abit. Also, if you Google charcoal underwear, the first thing that comes up, those help a LOT.

wtf is charcol underwear, are you KIDDING me?

That is BEYOND HILARIOUS.

Holy crap, I'd so totally give up Mickey D's over wearing charcoal underwear. That's such a no-brainer to me.

I guess I just cant get over the fact that they'd be willing to deal with all this emotional strain over bullsh*t food. They are writing like they have found the holy grail, and the rest of us are all ignorant fools who just dont understand their need to eat entire boxes of girl scout Cookies, and 3 double cheese bugers at a time.

I cant follow the thought process, but I am ordering some charcoal underwear to give to my bestfriend as a gag gift.

HA.

I am soooo glad I'm not the only one that can't stop reading that stuff. Heh...

You know, one of the assumptions society appears to make is that we really prefer a donut over being thin. It dawned on me reading your post that DSers prefer a Quarter Pounder over "normal" smelling.

I don't get it. I can't imagine, I can't fathom, I can't think of a single reason I would prefer DS over ANY other WLS type. I just can't wrap my brain around it, it boggles the mind. Then to watch them attack anyone that doesn't have DS... are they just nutty?

Ok you guys made me go and google. I used "duodenal" and "stinky" and guess what site loads -- OH. In particular, a post about anal fissures. Oh my.

I'm reading through the thread that google hit, and you're right. There seems to be a lot of hostility over the band, and other procedures. Here's one person's "signature" (part of it anyway):

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed, allowing liberal use of eggs, butter, mayonaisse, healthy oils, marbled meats, cheese, etc., in the diet; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76%...

Like -- it's so weird that someone would make that their signature.

What I really don't get -- why would some give a flying fazooie what kind of surgery I or any of you have? You'd think we were debating religion. So this surgery was right for me, and yours was right for you. Wtf is there in that to get mad about??

Do you guys know how addictive this stuff is to someone who doesn't go to OH? Reading threads there is like watching the Anna Nicole show.

I'm home all day and needed soemthing to fill up the time - So, I too Wheetsin googled OH - this is what I found:

Besides, grazing on fats leads to explosive diahrreah or greasy stools that sometimes leak out into my underwear when I pass gas. ( I know, TMI, but I have to go here in order to explain my food choices.) I have messed myself several times while in my car, but I have discovered that if I eat rice and other complex carbs with the fats, I can bind up the grease without losing control of my bowels

....and I was worried the first few wks of post op on the band, not "trusting the fart".....

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
