I am new to this site and may I say you guys are great people. I went to a seminar today that Dr. Speigal put on. I do not know who is better when it comes to this surgery Spivak or Speigal. Could you guys help me with what you know about both of them in order to help me with my decision. Thank you in advance.

Sherri, I was at Dr Spiegel's seminar on 3/19 also! I identified with so many things he went over... I've done some more research, spoken with a few people who have recently gone through the procedure. I think this is a wonderful site, so many supportive people. I haven't heard back from his office yet, so I'm not sure what the next step would be..... I need to check with my ins. co, but I'm pretty sure they won't cover it and I'm trying to workout self pay options.

Let us know how you proceed,

Karla

I think they're both very qualified band surgeons. Are you being banded in Houston? I used Dr. Spivak and love him and his staff.

Anyway, I really had a good experience w/Dr. Spiegal.

Hi, Sherri,

I was banded by Dr. Spiegel. He did a great job and his staff is wonderful, especially LuLu. She has always taken the time to answer any of my questions when I have called or gone in. I had my surgery 3/21 and have lost about 15lbs so far. I have had little to no trouble thus far. Good luck with your choice and future banding. Karen

Hi, I was banded Monday the 25th by Dr. Spivak. I loved him and he had great bedside mannors and didn't leave until he checked on me and the other lady that was there. His office staff was great as well.

Hi Sherry,

I got the band yesterday. Dr Spivak did my surgery. I was his only patient, and was a little worried, because Dr Speigal had about 15 patients, waiting.

Come to find out, Friday is not one of Dr Spivak's surgery days, but he came in to do mine. I had told him I wanted to have this done asap, so he agreed to do it.

One of the girls in the office where I had my surgery (Physicians Surgery Center of Houston) told me that Dr Speigal has all his patients arrive at 6am, and wait. All of his patients said they had to be on a liquid diet 4 days before surgery. Dr Spivak only ask you to be on a low carb diet.

I was also told that Dr Speigal has you take baby aspirin for pain when you go home. I was given a prescription for Lortab elixer, which I much say, helps the pain, and discomfort.

Dr Spivak has a Great bedside manner. Very nice person.

Good Luck to you

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
