Changes to Private Health Insurance

Hi Everyone,:confused2:

Received this email from a lady - Please check your health funds - NOW!!!!

:::::::

Received a letter from Manchester Unity today informing me of changes to my health insurance cover.

When reading the fine print I noticed that they will no longer cover gastric banding from May 2008.

Apparently many other health funds are raising their premiums and dropping coverage for certain procedures such as gastric banding, so for those of you who are waiting for your health insurance to kick in, it might be worth a phone call to find out whether your health fund will cover you for gastric banding!

regards

She smiles, if you have been with NIB for at least 12 months, by law, any time you've waited must be accepted by another insurer. So if you change companies and have already done the 12 months, you don't have to wait it again. You'll only need to wait if you increase the level of cover.

Contact other companies, explain the level of cover you have now and ask if they will cover the numbers the PS gave you at a similar level.

Thanks I'll look into it. I've got top hospital (12 months ticks over in August for that so I'd have to wait until then anyway). I thought I might have to wait the 12 months because it would be something my previous cover with the different fund didn't cover, so was a new coverage, so to speak. Worth looking into, when I have time!
