Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

Wow, I'm gone for two days and so much has happened.

Hi Mom! Glad you went, spoke up, had the scoping and got some answers. And happy to hear your daughter is feeling some restriction.

Water all day is hard for me as well. I took the advise I got here and started taking a big jug of Crystal lite water to work and it sits right in front of me. That doesn't mean that I don't get so busy that I forget to drink, but most days I get my 8+ in, and that's when I lose the weight. If I don't drink, I don't lose.

There are support groups on this form for both teens and twenties. Perhaps you might encourage your daughter to get involved with others going through not only the same band challenges, but others going through the emotional issues surrounding weight loss at a young age---not being able to eat what one's friends are eating, to suddenly looking like someone you've never been before, to the new attractiveness to boys, etc. This may be "healthier" group to chat with than on facebook! There's nothing like peer support...that's why the rest of us are here. We're bound because we started this together. But I also go on the over 50's group because there are body and weight loss issues that need the support of other women my age (like how far below my knees my boobs reach now!)

I give you so much credit for jumping into this- you're a very involved parent and by coming to those who have been through the surgery, you really are getting the lowdown on the ins and outs. Now, you're daughter should get involved because as we've all said...bottom line, it's up to her.

Continued good luck to you.

Hi All,

Carol- how are you feeling?

Brandy- Interesting about the bands. I know very little about them. I don't even know what type I have - I should ask.

Hope everyone else is well and feeling good. I'm still hovering between 230.6 and 231.4. Drinking all I can and walking a bit. My new mini-goal is to leave the 30's behind and see 229 peek out at me.

I really see the difference the changes have made. Far beyond the compliments- though I love those. THis is the WORST time of year for me - my biggest event for the year, and it always come the same time as the Passover holiday. STRESS, STRESS, and more stress. I work so late that most nights I end up eating take-out or just handfuls of pretzel and candy. And of course, I always know that the sugar makes the stress worse, but I could never get out of the pattern. THIS YEAR, more energy, more focus, not snapping at my husband out of stress...and sleeping! I don't eat much at all during hte day- my band doesn't like it- so I'm drinking Water and Protein Drinks and Soup. I have dinner and that's usually fish these days. I cannot tell you how great it is. Only down is that excercise is difficult, cause I'm pooped when I get home, but I'm trying to at least walk a couple of days.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT ONE BY ONE, WE'LL HIT OUR BANDAVERSARIES NEXT MONTH! I'm last- April 30th, which is the day of my event!

I'm April 30th too!! Seems the last two weeks have been really productive in the loss department. Some days I am surprised that the scale has given me a lower number and some days I am surprised that is has NOT given me a lower number!! But for now I am happy with the progress!! Though it is mind boggling to realize that even after 100 lbs - there can still be so much to go!!.................

~Mom~ I currently have 8.5 ccs - and as everyone else has said it does take some getting used to. When I was first filled up to this point, I was uncomfortable for a least a good week or more and considered having some removed....but then I worked through it and now I am at a perfect spot - not too much and not too little - this gives me just enough restriction but doesn't make my life miserable. Unless you have the band - it is kind of hard to comprehend.

One thing I did experience after this last fill but a sort of acid reflux - never experienced it with previous fills and was kind of surprised and puzzled by it - the doctor has told me to take Zantac once or twice a day to determine if this stops it - magically one pill - makes it disappear immediately (at least for me) so the last few days I have made sure to take one and now I feel back to normal.......has anyone else experienced this symptom?

Hey NG-

I take Protonix for Gerd- have for years. The surgeon thinks when I lose more I can go off, but who knows.

However, I had the same "heartburn" pain a couple of times. When I'm getting the fill and I drink to see how it goes through- if it doesn't, it backs right up and burns.

And, this fill was very, very tight. So much so that Fluid has backed up a few times because I drank too much. Then I get the burn! It was bad a couple of times so I popped a Zantac - and it disappeared. So, it could be that you're backing up a bit?

I simply cannot believe that it's almost a year. It stuns me how fast the year went. I feel like it was just a few months ago. Amazing. I REALLY wanted to hit 100 by my bandiversary, but I plateaued and ate badly for two months. Maybe I can get to 90, and believe me, I won't complain!

You're doing an AMAZING job of it. Like you, I would like to lose a lot more. Other than my little mini-goals, my first goal is lose 100 (215); then my next goal is to lose 16 more to get me below 200. So, that's 30 more. After that, it would be great to keep going to get down another 35 and make it 150 off. But once I'm under 200, I can start to think of boob and belly fix. Hey, not only would my breasts come back above my belly button, but it's like 15-20 pounds for "free." LOL.

Right now, though, it's a day at a time so I don't make myself nuts.

Looking foward to celebrating together!

Hello all. I am just checking in as well. Yes our anniversaries are fast approaching! I met my 1 year goal of 90lbs lost. I was hoping to make it to 95 but we will see. I need to take my own advice on the Water I think. Sheesh the last few days I just haven't gotten in all my water. I am bloated like a blow fish :)

I am hoping once the water receeds that I will be down a pound

Glad to see everyone checking in and doing so well. We have come a long way. There's a ton of knowledge in our thread.

Hi Everyone... Yup... It is hard to believe that it will be one year very soon..... 4 days away for me. I too made my one year goal with a eleven pounds to spare. Ive updated my goal to take another 30 more off. The winter has made it very difficult to lose. I havent made much progress but I havent gone backwards. Ive signed up with a trainer at the gym and whew... she is putting a hurt on me... But Ive lost a few so I guess I will just have to endure.

Well... back to lurking... Happy bandiversary everyone!!!

Okay....HELP.....hiccups all day. I think I accidentally gulped down too much Crystal Lite in one gulp and banged my diaphragm. Couldn't get it to stop until I used the teaspoon of sugar under the tongue cure...which worked. However, everytime I start to drink it again, the hiccups start again. More sugar. I know the teaspoon isn't much and I can't eat, but oh boy, it's not fun hiccupping like this. I'm going out to dinner tonight and I don't know what I'll do if it starts again. My shoulder hurts because I'm not eating enough today (sugar isn't very filling) and I hurt when I hiccup. Anyone ever have this? Can you imagine....almost a year and I'm still finding new things to bother me! LOL. Got to go get another teaspoon of sugar. Later...........

Hi All,

I have really been down for the past few months. I have been thinking that I can't work my band. I have not lost any weight over that period and was really beating myself up. Well I decided to get my butt into the doctors for a fill. The only thing standing in my way was well....ME!! hahaha So I has a fill yesterday and am recommitting to my band. I have to remember that I have lost 85 pounds! That is incredible! I could never have done that and kept it off without my band. If I didn't have my band and went through the last few months I would have surely gained and thankfully I did not. So the down side for me so far is that if I stop eating right I just do not lose - but I also do not gain! So I am in the process of an attitude readjustment. I can do this - I will do this.

Anyway - I hope everyone is having a great day! :P Thanks for listening!

Hi All!!! It’s been a very long time since I posted so long that I forgot my password and had to create a new login, used to be jamd now I’m jamd1. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and let everyone know that it’s been a good year so far I’m down 80 pounds with only 5cc in my 10cc band. My last fill was in August 2008, I think that I might be ready for another fill but my thought is if I’m losing weight on a weekly basis why get a fill?? My follow up visit for my yearly is May 1st so I figured I’d wait until then to see what my doctor says. I feel wonderful, I have so much more energy, and my new addiction are clothes not FOOD!:P

Weird I have never heard of sugar. I am not sure I could get it down either. I don't like real sugar. I had problems with hiccups in early banding. They can be really annoying. They were also what I call my soft stop.. If I got hiccups that meant I was full and to stop. Once my food started to go down again the hiccups subsided.

Colorado I feel like that sometimes... Then yes I realize 90lbs is alot of freaking weight. I fall off and get back on. I haven't had a fill since last October. I am starting to think that I might need one in the next few months. I only lost a few pounds last month and I can eat more than before. We will see. Maybe if I have a true plateau I will go back in.

Hello!! Don't run off  We like to see action on the thread.

Congrats on the 80lbs thats super! You're right if you're still losing and you're comfortable where you are there is no need for a fill. That could be the sweet spot.

As with you my new addiction is shopping. When I say that I might be serious lol. I had to make a trip to goodwill to get rid of my last size and I donated 92 shirts and 28 or so pairs of jeans. I am a good clearance shopper but it's still spendy... Good thing the hubby likes to see me in new clothes!

I need new clothes! I hate to buy stuff since I do not plan to be wearing them long. I think I may head over to Goodwill or something.

Colorado... I do that too. I found lots of jeans with the tags still on and most were Gap Jeans.

Those are gonna have to go soon though.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
