Any good cottage cheese flavorings?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I just read your post about the cottage cheese. I did'nt have to be on a special diet before the surgery but afterwards..well you know...I did. I would add 1 or 2 teaspoons of baby food applesauce and 1 packet of splenda to a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. It was pretty good.:biggrin2:

Ok, what about those of us who gag on the consistency of cottage/ricotta cheese? It doesn't matter what it is in, or how it is made it makes me want to chuck it all up.

I know it will be a god send when I am on the "solid liquid" stage moving to mushy then solid foods again.. but umm yeah .. I can't deal with the consistency it really makes me want to throw up.

Any tips?

Fat Free Refried Beans & a dolup *sp* of light Sour Cream / Salsa was another Fav of mine during Mushies. tuna or Egg salad w/Light mayo, oatmeal, Scrambled eggs were a few more.

I believe there's a link or 2 if you do a search on the Mushy stages...

You can try diffent brands and different fat content. The texture of all cottage cheese is not the same. In fact, I'm pretty picky about where I get my cottage cheese, because my favorite is a store brand that can't be found anywhere else, and I like the texture the best. If you find one with a creamy texture, it can be whizzed to a smooth texture. You just have to experiment, though, to find the one that you like best.

I'm not going to post which one I like best, first of all because everyone's tastes are different, and since it's a store brand, it's likely you won't be able to find it where you live, anyway.

Good luck in your cottage cheese quest!

Hi,

I am using "Johnnys great caesar! Garlic spread and seasonings". It is awesome! I buy it at costco (I'm from Canada), hopefully it is available where you are. It is a powder, come in a 510 g jar for about $5.99. Hope you like it. If you like garlic and caeser stuff, you'll love this.

I never liked cottage cheese, unless it was loaded with Pineapples or peaches and the juices. But I bought some Breakstones lowfat cottage cheese and I like it all by it's self with nothing added. Give it a try, it has a nice flavor to it.

The Breakstone cottage cheese is the best one I have found as well. The great thing is you can buy it in a snack size which is perfect for me. I eat it for a snack almost every day after work.

I mix full fat cottage cheese (1.5 grams more of fat per serving...worth it!) with any of the following fresh or frozen fruits: pears, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or pineapple. I mix 3 packets of splenda in, and sometimes a couple tablespoons of yogurt. When on strict mushies I pureed the fruit first.

Now I also mix in a couple Tbsp of granola for extra texture.

The only brand of cottage cheese I like is Borden, but I think that's only distributed in the south.

Okay, if you are looking for a savory way to fix cottage cheese, I made a good one today. I melted 1 wedge of light laughing cow garlic herb cheese in the microwave for about 25 seconds. Added 1/2c. cottage cheese, 1 tsp. of pesto, and 2-3 tbsp of spaghetti sauce and mixed it well. It was really good. It kind of taste like the filling in lasagna!

I like to put dill on my cottage cheese. Not very exciting, but it breaks up the boringness of just cottage cheese and gives it a kick!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
