March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

The prodigal blah blah blah!

I'm back. I think. I've had a crazy last few months, hyper-stressful, constant deadlines, the reverberations of my excellent but disastrous winter relationship, travel etc. I've been eating very badly, not just overeating but bingey, as if making up for all the "privation" I'd endured over the last year.

It's pretty absurd, really. I'm embarassed, but, hey, I still have the band.

I don't have much restriction - if any, really - I can eat whatever I want. But the biggest problem hasn't been the nature of the food - the things I've been going nuts on have been all the high carb foods that slip effortlessly past a band. I've just kicked my chocolate malt addiction.

This has been a lazy, emotionally-driven fall. I don't know how much I've put on, but it's certainly a good bit, judging from the belt notch index.

So I'm here. I'll try to check in regularly; if I fall silent, feel free to nudge me, those of you who are my Facefriends! For there is no escaping the reach of Facebook...

I hope you're all well, and powering forward with the weight loss. Scrappy, as always, you continue to amaze and inspire. Christine: you must have been very naughty indeed in a past life to have incurred such endless complication. I hope you can figure out a regimen that works well for you.

I've only skimmed the posts from my Dark Interval, but I look forward to catching up with everyone, and hearing how thigns are going...

Later this week - after the Water weight goes! - I'll face the grim task of updating my sig file.

FENTON _ Glad to see you are back. WE have all gone through those "slips" in our travels: wit or without excess stress from everywhere.

Those carbs that slide right on down are the devil.. always my demon I am dealing with too...

As I always say- we are a work in progress, with dips and turns, good and bad.. but always moving forward..

I'm going in tomorrow morning for surgery at 7:30 am. I'm really scared so say a prayer for me. I was suppose to get and EKG and didn't realize that until today when they asked where I had it done, so now I have to have that done first thing in the morning. I think that is stressing me out even more than surgery.

Scrappy...I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. You will do fine, but I totally understand your fear. Gosh I was scared when I went under for the band. I will send up a prayer for you and check for a post in a few days.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

Christine

Fenton, welcome back.

I too have been on a slippery slope. I have re-gained almost 10 pounds! YIKES! This morning the scale said 222~! OH MY!!! I will get this thing back under control.

I too have no restriction and probably never will, but I do have my slow gastric emptying thing going on which is sort of like a band without the quantity limitation. The bad stuff goes through so easily and the solid Proteins just hurt after an hour or so.

Do you know what Dr Ren's rebuttal to my coment about soft foods being higher in fat and calories was? She told me to cook some vegetables until they were nice and soft.....how nice does that sound?....?....? Yes, she certainly knows how to shut me up.

Good to see you back here. Many of us seem to have dropped off, but I really would love to see an update or two every now and then.

Well Fenton......nice to see you back here!

I've been absent of late as well....much going on in my life.

I know this is going to sound weird after just getting back from a glorious cruise....BUT my husband and I are divorcing after 23 years.

It's been a long time coming and I think we both considered the cruise a last ditch effort to reconnect....but we didn't. We fought four out of the seven nights....including a visit from the cruise police one night....gee, hardly humiliating at all.

I am PROUD to say that through the stress, I've NOT turned to food....and I've actually lost weight. Of course, the fact that the band becomes a sphincter under stress may have something to do with it. I have been very restricted some days......

I bought my first pair of size 8 jeans the other day.....NEVER been that small that I can remember.

At any rate....I'm here....I'm surviving......

SCRAPPY, you're in my thoughts....you'll sail through tomorrow with the great speed and power you've shown all along!

Scrappy - keeping you in m yprayers, Can't wait to hear how things went. I am hoping to get my tummy yuck the end of July.

Harley - sorry to hear about impending divorce. I divorced after 21 years of marriage and sounds similar to you. Kept trying and then ecided it was no longer worth the effort to work on it by myself!! Good thought for you in the process

Christine - it seems there are several of us that are struggling at this time. I had 1cc removed a few weeks ago and have had some relief.. and healing from the continual PBing I was having. Go to doctor on Friday and even though I would love to have at least part of tht 1cc replaced I am still have a few issues with certain foods. And those soft carbs just go down so easy!!

Scrappy, I'm sure that by now you'll have come through the other side, and are resting. Probably not wildly comfortable, but it's a HUGE step forward!

Harley - sometimes you have to take a cold, hard look at where you are, and make a difficult decision; I'm sure it wasn't made lightly. Hang in there! Things'll get better. The world is a different place, when viewed from size 8 jeans...

Scrappy you are in my thoughts. Let us know how you are doing. When are we going to see some pictures. I get to have my first plastics consult on 7/21/09. I am excited. I am leaving for Las Vegas on Friday. I am now one pound away from losing 150 by the time I left for Las Vegas. It still amazes me that I was able to lose 150 pounds in since my surgery date of 3/27/08.

Fenton - I'm chiming in too to say welcome back. What is your first goal? i.e. what are you going to do right today, then the next and the next.

I'm trying to up my exercise again after finding myself in a plateau that I'm sure is a combination of too much work stress, not enough time to exercise. So, I took time to marinate some boneless porkchops in a bottle of Mrs Dash Garlic & Lime marinade from Sunday night to tonight and cooked those babies on the grill, and yummy, it is good eating something good tasting very slowly.

I'm on my laptop in the hospital things went wonderfull This has been the easiest surgery I ever had. I didn't even take one pain pill and I'd say my pain level is about a 1 one a scale of 1-10.

I was talking on the phone in the recovery room. been up walkikng the halls I bet I walked a mile, it was slow but it felt good.

I have this huge binder on and 2 drains so I look really fat, and I can tell I'm swelled even my hands are. I will go home after Breakfast tomorrow.

Thanks for the prayers they must have helped!!!

Glad to hear from you. Sounds like things are going well. I can't wait to hear how your recovery goes.

I think the binder and the drains will be the worst of the whole procedure.. How long did it take? I have so many questions. Speedy recovery, take care

Scrappy...so glad to hear you doing so well! Incredible! Congratulations.

Harley....I can imagine there must be some relief with the decision being made. I have been trying so hard to stay happy in my marriage for so long now I can only imagine that the relief of finally knowing where it's all going brings some relief. I can imagine the other side of that is the loss of those long ago dreams. My thoughts are with you. Congratulations on the size 8 jeans! That is an awesome place to be!

Potatie...have fun in Vegas!!

Christine

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
