Banded on 2/6/08 and looking for banded friends!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

My name is Lily and I just got banded this week on 2/6/08. I just started my full liquids today and so far I'm doing pretty good. I love that I found this site because I really need friends that have been through this so I can bounce questions off of! I'm so scared of learning to eat and drink now that I'm banded...I'm afraid of the throwing up part and discovering the pain of possibly eating too much? I would love to get to know as many people as possible...so please message me back!

Thanks!

Lily

Hi Lily!

I was banded on 2.7.08 and will start my Protein shakes on Monday. My only suggestion is to go slow and listen to what your band is telling you. Eat only until you feel full. Don't push it. If you don't finish your shake or your cup of whatever, don't worry about it. Remember, this isn't like the old days where you have to clean your plate. Just try and get in touch with your body and be aware of the signs it is telling you that you are full. These can be a variety of signs ranging from tightness in the chest to a runny nose! LOL Everyone is a little different so you need to figure out what these "soft stop" signs are before you reach the hard stops that aren't so pleasant. The only way to do that is by going slow. We may have to learn our lessons the hard way every now and then, but I am going to try my darndest not to push my luck! LOL

Good luck with your new band!

Thanks Jax!

I know what you mean about going slower...tonight I was having a shake and I was watching TV. Then I realized that I felt VERY full and I experienced such a strange feeling in my chest and stomach so I stopped. I had not finished the shake which surprised me because it was so small and my band isn't even filled yet! This is amazing how it holds you back and keeps you from going too far. I am so glad that I did this! It is definitely the help that I have been needing all along!

Good luck to you too and please keep in touch!

Lily

my best friend was banded on Halloween and she suggested buying a baby spoon for when you get to mushies stage. I was expressing the same concern to her as you were..that either I would vomit or I would get something obstructed.

I've heard pineapple juice will help you get unstuck if that ever happens. I was banded on 2/5 and haven't had many issues with drinking my full cup size portions but I do try to take it slow and end up feeling very full after my meal.

Slowly slowly slowly is the way to go....

Good luck and keep me posted!

Lily:

I was banded on 1/25 and have done very well. Im still on soft foods/ but I havent had any problem - other than learning to eat slowly - if you eat to fast or to much you get a feeling and you will know it. My upper stomach hurts and it runs thru to my back - it goes away pretty quickly though. If I stop before I get to that point I feel great!! I havent thrown up at all - or even felt like that at all. Hope I wont. I see you are from IL - I am too. Best of luck to you with your new journey!!

I was banded on 02/07/08 and I am on my Clear Liquids for the first two weeks. The only full liquid I am allowed is my Protein Shakes, which I can only handle about 4 oz. of until I feel full. The only problem I have had is taking my blood pressure medication. My surgeon said it was fine to take it, but it is a large capsule and when I swallow it, i feel like it is going to come back up for about an hour. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting, just pressure like when I burp I'm going to regurgitate. Anyone else have this problem? I also wondered when weight loss started with others. I have only had approximately 300-400 calories a day for 7 days and have only lost 4 lbs and those lbs were before surgery. I haven't lost anything since surgery. I think it could be swelling? Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Lily!

Welcome to LBT,we are so glad you joined us. We look forward to getting to know you and sharing your band journey with you.

Newgal, many medications are available in liquid form. Perhaps you need to ask your doctor if your blood pressure medication is. As far as weight loss, it is important to remember that the time right after your surgery is for healing, not losing weight. The band is designed to work once you start getting fills, which you have not done yet. But once you have had a couple of fills and reach your sweet spot, you will begin losing weight.

I live in Metropolis, IL - right on the border near Paducah KY - that is about 6 hours away from Chicago. I think we all worry about all the new stuff we are going thru. At least I am - Im afraid I will over-eat and I dont want to do that. So far, it does stop me. I would love to keep in touch too! It's good to have a support team!!!

Welcome. Remember to take it slow and litsten to your body. Healing takes 6 weeks and it's important to take in enough Protein to facilitate this process. Medications that are not enteric coated or time released can be crushed. I take several medications (and am a registered nurse) and find taking my medications with a hot cup of coffee flushes them out of the pouch and prevents that gold ball feeling.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
