Any Smoothie Ideas???

Recommended Posts

OK, here is my favorite: In a blender, put:

1 cup soy milk

1 scoop Protein powder

some frozen fruit: strawberries, blueberries, cherries, whatever

a few ice cubes

a single serving Crystal Light - preferably citrus

Blend away. This will probably make to much for a newly banded person to consume in one sitting, so adjust accordingly. Also, it may be a tad thick. If so, leave out the ice cubes.

Enjoy!

Nancy

Jamie, there are a lot of mushy food suggestions in the "Food" forum. As for smoothies, lots of times I'd just buy either light drinkable yogurt (Fruition and Stonyfield Farm are good) or get Odwalla juice blends. Here's what I make at home:

In blender: mix 1 banana, about 1 cup fruit juice (orange or whatever), and a handful of unsweetened frozen raspberries. Toss in some Protein powder if you want. Crank until blended. This is not a low-calorie food, but it's a good way to get a lot of Vitamins while you're in the liquid and mushy phases.

Here are a couple that I have

1cup frozen fruit

1/2cup skim milk

1/2 cup low-fat/fat free flavored yogurt

1/2 cup of ice

1 scoop Protein powder

Fruit Smoothie with sugar free juice instead of milk:

1 cup of frozen fruit

1/2 cup sugar free juice (i.e. Crystal Lite)

1/2 cup low-fat/fat-free flavored yogurt

1/2 cup ice

1 scoop Protein Powder

These were given to me by my Dietian.

HI Jamie,

Before being banded I made three huge pots of foods, One vegetable Soup, One beef stew and one chicken soup. I let them cool in the fridge ,scoped off the fat the next day and then blended each one in thier own pot. After they were cool I froze them in ice cube trays and when they were frozen but a few in a zip lock.

Now when I want something. I thaw one or two cubes and have that for lunch or dinner. The portions are already done and they have all the veggies and protiens I need. It made my life so much easier after the surgery.

Hope this helps

Not sure how I missed this thread initially, but thank you for starting it Jamie! We love smoothies around here in the summertime, and now that it's warming up, I'll probably make the first one that Trish's dietician gave her. That sounds great! (So thanks for posting that too Trish!)

Great thread!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
