Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits

Allykat - are you asking the hours of the obesity clinic? If you are, they're open till 4 on m-th. If you can make it at 10 you should try and keep it. I know for a fact that they are already booking into the mid-end of April. You always want to schedule ahead. They'll let you make 2 appointments at a time if they're at least 2 weeks apart. I try and do this so if I need to cancel one I know it won't be 6 weeks until I get back in. Sometimes if you speak with Malik directly she can try and squeeze you in somewhere, but prepare to wait longer when they squeeze you in.

Hey Mia, did you still want to meet for lunch on the 20th? I marked my calendar

Holly

Yep Holly, if you can swing it that would be great!!! Anyone else going to be in Albany on the 20th around lunch time and want to meet up?? I don't know if I'll be able to get a fill because of my weight loss but I'm still going to go and get weighed there anyway-

Did anyone else feel the world stop turning this morning? That was me...I actually did it. I called my sister and went and walked 2 miles. I have to say, it felt good! Not sure if I'll have time to do it again tomorrow, but my plan is to start Monday. My daughters have dance over in Cairo and while I wait for them to finish, I'm gonna put my walking shoes on!

Brina, how were you this weekend? I know we were banded days apart, so I'm always curious about what you are feeling/doing. I have to tell you...I've been freaking starving today! I don't know what is going on, it is like the sleeping beast has awakened or something. I haven't done bad and I'm sticking to the soft/mushy food lists but I am so ready for regular food. I see Dr. Bagnato on Wednesday and I am really hoping he lets me start on regular foods. How is it going for you?

Hello allykat:

I am doing fine. I know what you mean that the hunger just suddenly returned. I am still on the full liquids phase. I can eat the creamed Soups and watery grits and all of that. I eat a few creamed Soups, but I am mostly living off of mashed potatoes with cream of chicken Soup poured over them. I am surprised at how filling they are. If I am craving meat..I will eat one or two chicken vienna sausages. I know that they are not the halthiest thing in the world, but they are the softest meat that I can think of.

Physically I am fine, but right now emotially i am having one of those days. I kinda wish they had not told me that I lost 15 lbs. it has dawned on me that the further you progress into the phases the higher you calorie consumption. More calories=more potential to gain weight. I think the true reason I am on mashed potatoes is because I am scared to gain back those 15lb. I know that the band was not reposnsible for that loss. You live off of sugar free everything and wonton Soup for a week and you physiologically *have* to lose weight.

Then i went to get my eyebrows arched this weekend. The girl who does my brows had been banded by Dr. Bagnato. She pretty much dropped trou and showed me what her loose skin looked like. It was not some horrific site, but it was enough to get me all concerned. I dont want that. it took all of my courage to go through with this and the thougth of having to have plastic surgery scares the shit outta me. On top of that, who is gonna pay for it if it coems to that. I know that this is far off since I have only lost 15 lbs, but it is stuck in the front of my mind.

I am ordering soem exercise vids and some toning vids today.

Other than that, I am okay. Not my usuall goofy self, but I am surviving.

Brina, I know how you feel. I am certain I am going to need PS. I mean, I've got almost 200lbs to lose:eek:. It is scary, but I would much rather be healthy and have loose skin, than be unhealthy and have fat rolls everywhere, lol.

I pretty much told DH that we better start saving now, because I'm definitely gonna need it! I had this surgery for health reasons, first and foremost, but I'm still young and I think the PS is going to be necessary for me to completely feel good about myself. I plan on getting the works........a LBL, breast reduction and/or a breast lift, and a brach. It scares me to death, but I'm pretty sure I'll end up having it done.

Oh, at church tonight, we had a speaker who had gastric bypass surgery. He was 454lbs when he had the surgery and now he weighs 175lbs. Looking at him, you would never know he was overweight. He told us that he did NOT have PS, but he didn't have a lot of extra skin. I just can't imagine losing 275lbs and not having a lot of extra skin. I wanted to sit down and talk with him and ask him what exercises he did, but there were so many people around, I couldn't get him away to talk about it. I mean, I can look at myself now and I already know I'm going to need PS, but it was an inspiration to see someone lose that much weight and not need PS. I think sometimes men carry their weight differently than women, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

I guess I'll cross that path when it comes. Until then, I'm going to focus on getting healthy. Everyone is doing a great job, keep up the good work!!

I really haven't been posting on this thread as much because I didn't want to be a downer, but I've been having a really hard time this past week. I've been snacking at night a lot and just not sticking to the plan very well. Tonight I had a huge brownie and ice cream and I just feel sick about it. I know I can't eat perfect all the time, but I just feel bad about it. It's my TOM and I always have severe cravings during this time. I'm usually pretty good at handling the cravings, but not this time. I didn't want to post this because I see it as weakness for some reason. I don't see it as weakness in other people when someone else post they are having a hard time, just when it's me. I'm not sure if this makes sense to anyone, it's hard to explain. I hate feeling this way. I feel like a complete failure this week, I've actually gained a couple of pounds. I'm just mad at myself for not being stronger.

Sorry to be a downer, but thanks for listening.

On a happier note, I did go shopping over the weekend and had a pretty good experience. I've gone from a very tight 26/28 to a comfortable 22, so I was happy about that.

Georgia Girl;

It's sounds like your somewhat of a perfectionist. You're so understanding and compassionate with everyone else, and hardest on yourself. Well, you don't have to be. As you probably have read, I have a recent bout of depression and self-pity, but am feeling much better now thanks to the support of everyone here at LBT. The band is a tool that assists us with losing weight, it doesn't make us 'super-human'. Even the healthiest people ocassionally treat themselves. You have done exceptionally well thus far, and will get continue to do so. I believe in you!! TOM!!! Enough Said.

Keep your head up. This too shall pass!!!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
