Dr. John Bagnato - Bagnato Bandits

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I hope you guys don't mind that I've started a new thread. I've been talking to Terri from Dr. B's office, and she wants to email all of Dr. Bagnato's patients about this website and this support chat that all of us Bagnato Bandsters have going on. She was really impressed by how we've been supporting each other and wants all of Dr. B's patients to be able to come here and get support.

I wanted the title of the thread to be clear and make sure everyone who was banded by Dr. Bagnato knows that they are welcome here, even if they don't live in Albany.

For anyone who is interested, we have formed a support group and have decided to meet once a month.

Our first group meeting will be Feb. 7th at Ruby Tuesday in Tifton, Ga at 6:00 pm. This meeting is basically just a "get to know each other" meeting. I hope to see all of you there!

I mentioned this site to Terri back in October. They were trying to get a link to this site from his website. I thought that was a good idea for those that were thinking of having the surgery to get some answers and see how sucessful we have been. I think people feel better when they talk to someone who has been thru somthing they are thinking about doing. But gagirl, you are right this will make it more inviting to Dr B's pts from all over. Great idea!

Hey Terri! I'm glad you found us!! I agree, I think every person could get valuable support and insight from the forum. I don't think we have an official name really. We'll let georgia girl decide since she started the group. I'll send you a pic of my spot tomorrow. I swear I think more ppl have seen my girls in the last week than in my lifetime, lol.

Mia I'm ROTFL,

I think I've just gotten used to showing my girls. I've had so many doctor's appointments where they had to look at them, it doesn't even bother me anymore!

LOL, you know, it hasn't been until today that I even thought about it. I sent you that email the other day just wanting another pair of eyes to tell me what they thought and then today it dawned on me, dang I sent her a pic of my boobs! LOL.

Fill question about Elizabeth: I was astonished this morning when i got on the scales- Im down a total of 29 lbs! I only list 15 pre-op so I am just in awe of my post op loss. My question is, will Elizabeth give me a fill if I continue to lose like this? My first fill is scheduled for february 28. Which is STILL a long way off and I know that my restriction will lesson by that time, but even so- I think I'm already past the two pounds a week thing. How was it for you guys? I am also leaving the posibility open that when I get less restriction I may even gain some of the weight back (I hope I don't but gotta be realistic). How is Elizabeth about sticking to the whole if you've lost more than two pounds per week she's not giving a fill guideline?

I lost a lot of weight before my 6 week fill appointment. I'm not sure exactly how much, but it was way more than 2 pounds a week. I lost close to 15lbs the first week after surgery. She gave me my fill at my 6 week appointment. After that fill is when they really start monitoring your weight loss.

There was one time when I know I needed a fill because I was going hungry, but I still worked hard to keep losing and she wouldn't give me a fill because I lost 2lbs a week. I do understand where they are coming from, they want us to lose slow and healthy. I have another appt. on Feb. 12th and I know I won't be getting a fill because I've lost too much. I'll probably end up cancelling it since it's such a long drive.

I think she will give you a fill if you have been hungry. And then they will want to see you about every 2 weeks until you get good restriction.

Well girls, I have to have port revision surgery. I saw Dr. Bagnato today and he placed my port in entirely the wrong spot. The way i was laying on the table flat made my breasts fall back and on my chest and he thought he was placing it higher than he was. I go back on feb. 4th to make sure all signs of infection/redness are gone and then if all is well I will have my port removed and repositioed on february 8th. Dr. Bagnato is not charging me and he says he will give me a fill at the same time he does the port revision. I won't lie and say I'm not IMMENSELY upset, but its just one of those things that I've got to do. My port is currently in my actual breast and he thinks it will cause problems with filling if we don't do the revision. I could wait and see come fill time, but I'm not happy with a port in my breast either, so despite the fact that I really really really don't want to have surgery again, I must. I am glad he is going to give me a fill because I have zero swelling anymore and can eat normal foods if I let myself. I'm still in shock. I called Terri crying after I left because I'm just so shocked that this has happened to me. Lord help me stay positive and not let this get me down.

Mia, I am soooo sorry you have to have surgery again. Please don't let this discourage you. I know you are upset right now, but try to stay positive.

How long will the recovery be for port revision surgery?

That is good news that you will be getting a fill at the same time. If you look at it that way, you'll be ahead of the game in that department. Maybe it will give you enough restriction so you're not as hungry. Again, I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but it will be so worth it. Hang in there! (((HUGS)))

I'm having it done on a friday so I should be back to work by Monday. I just need time to get over the anesthesia- I can't take that zappy wrist thing again- god I'd forgotten about that thing....ugh...this so sucks. Everyone on the chat is saying my dr is a quack and that I need to sue. I know he didn't do it on purpose. Do I wish he'd been more careful and done it correctly, hells yes, but I'm not going to sue him- they almost made me feel like I'm being stupid for letting him do my surgery again.

Mia- don't listen to everyone else, he's not a quack. I totally trust him. No matter what type of surgery you have, there's always a risk for complications. I know any surgery is big deal, but I think you'll be back to normal in no time. Keep your head up and try to stay positive okay!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
