Hi, Nina!

Good to hear from you again.

Hope you get alll your questions answered at your seminar.

Do you have co-morbidity factors?

Like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, etc?

They take all that in to account, as well as your BMI.

Hi Phyllser,

How do you pronounce your name? I'm having trouble with my computer. It is very slow and it's frustrating me.

My BMI is 38, I take 9 different prescribed medicines. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insomnia, incontinence, chronic pain ( a burning pain in feet, hands and lower back side ), anxiety, Epilepsy, artritus in knees and hips ( just had shots in right knee) this only helped a little bit. I have trouble with hemroids. Had surgery for that but it still hursts there. It's hard to sit long and hard seats no way!

I have not slept well for years and lately I'm really tired. Been trying to keep my vegetable garden alive with no rain. It would be the year I started a larger garden.

I have a hobby that I love. It is drawing and painting in oils, acyrlics, pastels, and I have some of my art on-line. None for sale though.

I'm sure there is more I could say.

Thanks for your reply. Don told me your often on here.

Kind regards, Nina

Hello,

Joann & Phill, I just got back home and saw that with your help I actually did get my user name changed!!!HOORAY.

Nina, I agree that you certainly would qualify for the band..I just now got back from my final pre-surgery appointments with my surgeon, RN Bariatric coordinator, and the diatician. I now have 84 little boxes of Optifast to start on Monday the 13th. I have my pre-admission tests on the 20th and surgery the 27th..I know it is a hard decision to make, but I have been in a lot of pain and limited activities for several years and have been reassured that the band will help me have a "better rest of my life". I do hope that you have a good heart to heart talk with your doctor and that you can get assurances that you need. It looks like Don is setting a good example?:)I'll be thinking of you!

One thing I didn't say was the doctors say I have IBS. So I take something for that. I'm not sure I have it. I don't have the symptoms that are typical of this syndrome.

The medicine I take for Epilepsy causes me to lose Water and that causes me to always be thirsty , plus one other medicine does this to me. My burning pain is most likely caused by the KEPPRA. I almost died from one medicine before Keppra. I had been taking some other medicine for Epilepsy and am now off of it. That plus one for incontinence caused my sodium level to go way to low! This happened just before Katrina came. I was in a semiconscious state. At the hospital is when they switched me to KEPPRA and then the burning pain started. It's a side effect of it I'm sure.

They have no idea why I'm Epileptic. I don't have the typical shacking stuff one thinks of with this, I just drop to the floor in a sudden blackout and no worming! It has happened 3 times and I'm glad that is all it has happened. I could stop it my doctor said but I'd have to give up driving and I may have some bad falls! I had one really bad fall and I don't care to experience that again!

I really started gaining weight when I turned 50 and was put on blood pressure medicine. It slows your metabolism and also I started menopause. Doing heavy work in the garden causes my knees to go and then it was hard to walk fast. Also I've had some bad falls that didn't help.

All for now.

Nina

Hi everyone,

Now I can't believe it's been almost 9 months sense my surgery.

I think I'm about ready for a small fill. My next appt is Aug. 26th, So I'll see how I do by than.

Just this past week I noticed how good I feel and am in very good spirits.

I'm going to my next support group meeting Tuesday night (July 14th) and take my wife (Nina) to a seminar on the 23rd. I think these meeting are so important to keep you going.

Everyone keep up the good work.

Don

Don so happy to hear how you are doing on your journey. I wonder what has happened to all the 60+ bandsters. I would love to hear how their journey is going. It is nice to get other peoples successes and disappointments and I do miss the variety.

Keep on truckin' Don. You are doing very well.

Hello all,

Well, today is my first day on the pre-surgery liquid diet.. So far, So good. However, I am going to be really, really, happy when these two weeks have passed! Found some good "Crystal Lite" popsickles.....pink lemonade and pomegranate. I have a support group meeting this Thursday and I know that will help me also. Like you, Don, I think they are very important.

Hi Laura,

I am discouraged too but mostly because of my own doings. I was banded 12/17 and have only lost 32 lbs. I have very cleverly learned how to manipulate the band by eating sugary things because if I eat Protein, I get full too quickly..... duh. I also find myself eating more than 3 times a day, another no, no. The last couple of days I have held myself in check and I can feel I have lost some. I will weigh in the morning and see for sure.

I think documenting everything you eat daily is a big help. The band works if you follow the dietary and exercise guidelines but those of us that are older will lose more slowly. I also follow the "before and after photos" on this website and a 26 year old has lost 200 lbs in less than a year....amazing.

Anyway I know why I am not as successful as others in our 60+ group.

Hi Laura

I stick to a low carb diet. I don't eat rice, potatoes, or white bread. In general, when I eat grains, I eat whole grains. My normal Breakfast is cottage cheese or yogurt with fresh berries, eggs, or steel cut oats with fruit. For lunch I have 1 cup of a low fat entree that I make and freeze ahead of time. I eat mostly low fat dairy and lean Protein (turkey, chicken and fish). I stay away from refined sugar almost entirely and most processed food. I find that when I eat my low fat protein I am full, and when I eat sugar I crave more food. I also track everything I eat on sparkpeople.com, which is a free diet website. Good luck to you, and keep in touch

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
