Hi everyone,

I am a very slow loser; banded in January of 2007 and have lost 41 lbs to date. I have had 3 fills and my doctor says I am about 1/2 full. I have never had a productive burp and I have never had food get stuck and never have any problem eating bread or chicken like so many others have. I am going for another fill next week and hope it will get me going again, since I have not lost an ounce in 3 months. Frustrating, but I keep

plugging along.......

By the way, I am 56 years old and sit at a desk for 9 hours a day, so that is slowing things down too, I'm sure. Try to get exercise but I am so

stressed out and exhausted from my work (I am a credit and collections manager) that I come home at night and simply CRASH. I did get a small

"stroll" machine for under my desk so that at least my feet are moving during the day.

Only three fills in all that time? How many cc's do you have and what size and brand band? Have any tests been done?

I was banded in November and my pounds lost flucuate between 40 and 45. I have not lost for three months but found out the Dr. thinks my band is unlocked! I got up to 9cc's in my 10 cc band when they decided an x-ray would be in order. From that x-ray he believes my band is unlocked. I am having a second surgery to have it fixed.

I have no symptoms, just no restriction and hunger. Maybe you need a test? X-ray, fill with floroscopy or an endoscopy?

Thats a good idea....I will talk to the doctor when I go next week.

Thanks for responding. I guess I am skittish about fills, because the doctor says if I get an overfill he would have to empty it and start all over again. I have an Inamed Lap Band, 9.75 cm, with a fill capacity of 4 cc's.

I have not come across anyone with the 4cc band that had an unlocked band. The new band has a redesigned locking mechanism and I have heard of other people with the new band that had a lock problem.

there is a fine line between your sweet spot and overfilled, but why not get small fills until you reach the right spot of restriction? Unless there is a lot of reflux etc. many people have gotten small unfills if they got too tight. Not everyone needs to be completely unfilled if they get too tight.

We cannot be expected to lose weight if the band is not working the way it was meant to, if we could we wouldn't need the band! Too loose a band, we gain or don't lose, perfect amount of fill and most people lose, if choosing the right foods.

Let us know how you make out after seeing your Dr.

First time writing in this slow losers forum. but I've been a lbt member since dec 2007. I had surgery may 8th 2008 and I have only lost 34 lbs. I just took some 5 month out pics and I dont see one lick of a difference in me. I am in the same outfit I was in when I took the before pics. I still have issues with the drinking with meals, and not chewing properly enough. I've had 4 fills and I have 6cc's in a 10 cc band. I have the realize band and I have pcos and insulin resistance. I have issues with willpower and control. I cant even get myself motivated enough to do a liquid diet even for a darn week. how sad is that?  I hate being fat and I thought I was doing okay and then financial crisis strikes and we are now broker than broke and I cant even afford fish and poultry to get my Protein and have to be EXTREMELY frugal at the grocery store so the rest of the family can eat..so I'm gonna have to go on the liquid diet so they have food to eat. I feel like such a failure. I got the lapband to help me with control and losing the weight but it's just not working. I cant even afford my next fill because I cant afford the gas to drive there and my insurance changes 4 days before my appt. so now I gotta reschedule my fill which sux. As you can tell I'm having a really really bad day, since I took those pics.

love and light,

Hi, I too am a slow loser, I am down one more pound today but in five months I have only lost a total of 7lbs. I work out five times a week, for at least 40 minutes, and it still will not let go of me.

I was banded May 29, 2008 and have only lost 7 lbs to date. It is a slow process and I keep telling myself one of these fills and its going to get easier. As for everything else, be strong, talk to God, and hopefully good answers will come, just remember His time line is different then ours.

that is so true! Stay strong. Get the Water in and Protein, you're like me, very slow loser, but it does add up over time...

I too am a slow loser, but it's not because the band isn't working. It's because I am not working with the band. I find ways to eat around it, and I don't exercise....at all. I have come to realize that my eating addiction is alot worse than I thought - every emotion I have is connected to eating - sad? Eat...happy? Eat...lonely?....Eat...Scared?....Eat. . . . :)

About 2 months ago I realized that Ice cream does not hurt going down and in my "miracles will happen" mind, I figured, "I have a lap band - I will still lose weight if I eat this"........... WRONG!!! Calories are STILL going in and not exercising is not helping. SOOOO I've stopped the ice cream - for over a month now and guess what? I lost some weight - Wooo hoo!!

I just have to "refocus" and "rethink" instead of depending on the band to do it for me.

I pray that everyone will over come whatever obsticles they have and be successful. I've decided that being successful for me is not being in a size 5 dress...it's being healthy and happy.

AND I need to get off my bottom and exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!

God Bless ALL :frown:

Hello, my name is Donna and I'm a slow loser... I've been banded for 3 1/2 months and have only managed to lose 20 lbs. 13 of those 20 lbs was in the first 2 weeks post op. That means I'm averaging 1/2 a lb a week (discounting the first 2 weeks). My weight loss has been playing with the same 2-3 lbs for a couple of weeks before dropping them for good and then 2-3 lb cycle again. I was exercising until my knee flared up with an injury while doing the couch to 5 k challenge. The doctor told me to rest it for a week or 2 until the pain went away and then resume exercises but no jogging. Well, that was 2 months ago and as predicted by the doctor, the pain did leave in 2 weeks of resting but I haven't resumed exercising. My TOM should be starting any day now so I'm committing to start exercising again once TOM departs.

Believe me I know how you feel. But don't give up it will happen sooner or later. Of course we want it sooned than later. It has taken me 21 months to lose 65 lbs when lot of people are at their goal and doing maintenace by then. I still need 30 more pounds to walk away from me. (lol) Oh that means, I need to get up off my behind and start the walking and exercising again. Stay strong.

I'm not sure if I'm a slow looser yet but I do believe I'm in bandsters hell. I was banded 10/13 and have lost 10 lbs since then. A little slow don't ya think? I have an appointment with my doc on 11/19 and I'll fill him in on my food plan and weight loss. I'm not sure why the scale isn't moving. I have ALOT to go. I just thought the first few weeks the pounds would melt like butter. And as for eating regular food, I think maybe I can eat more than I should. I'll just have to hear what the doctor has to say.

My Turn,

I was slow the first month then it started coming off BUT I only lose maybe a pound a week. That is normal a pound a week. Some times it comes off a little faster but just take your time it will happen!

I also go through where I lose 2 and gain 2 and lose 2 until they finally stay off. I have only lost 10 pounds since Aug. 1st but it's ok, it's still ten pounds less that I will never have back.

Just hang in there it does come off. Also the slower you lose the better chance you have of the skin getting back a little tighter.

Best Wishes

Again, as someone said just hang in there. I know it feels like what have I done. The cost, I should have lost at least 100 lbs. by now but I haven't. I keep in mind, every pound lost counts whether it's 1/2 lb or 1 lb. Since I lost so slow, I have no flabby or hanging skin of any kind. Not even my wings are flying. Do exercise some but no enough. Still need to lose 30 lbs. Will be post-op 2 yrs on the 25th of Jan 09. But, I will keep plugging until I get there even though it slow as a turtle. It cost to much not to succeed.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
