Slow Losers Unite!

... I was banded in 8/07. The first week after surgery I lost 14lbs. Since then (well as of 2/8) I've lost another 12.5lbs. It's soooo frustrating to me!!! ... I'm glad I'm not alone and that I have you guys to lean on.

ME TOO! I was banded 8/07, lost about 15 lbs right away and have yo-yoed and snailed my way to losing a total of 32lbs. It's so tough seeing fellow 8/07 bandsters lose 50-80lbs like it's no big deal. Thank God I'm not alone and came here!

Hey fellow slow losers!!!

I went for another fill on valentine's day and had gained 2 pounds!!!! UGH I am soooo frustrated...

I absolutely understand your frustration. I had the same thing happen. My pattern has been that I drop a big chunk of weight and then plateau, gain a few and drop a big chunk again. I have been doing the same things all along with food and exercise. So, my conclusion, as well as my Dr's, is that it is my genetics. Maybe you are the same way. Here's wishin' you a big loss :wink2:

I'm so glad I found you fellow slow losers!

Band Chick, I hadn't thought about it but you may be right about the genetics. That darn fat gene is on both sides of my family, and I am built just my mother and her mother!!! They both were overweight all their lives...

I had a very good answer from the fill nurse when I asked whether I needed a fill or not and if so how much. Her answer was getting more fill is not going to make you loose weight. The goal post is to have a fill that allows you to eat solid food by chewing it thoroughly and you are not hungry for 3 hours. You should have Protein every three hours. If you are hungry after eating then a small fill would be required starting at 1/4 cc.

I now believe that I am just a slow looser (64 years old) and I am not an exercise guru. I like to exercise but not to the point of exhaustion 7 days a week. To me that is just not fun. So I will be content with my 1/2 lb per week. Doddie:thumbup:

yes, I am content that at least I am losing, even if it is averaging 1 pound a week. I had hoped for faster weight loss when I first had the surgery, but I can see some difference now. Just imagine how many calories I was eating before getting banded? I guess I am fortunate that I didnt' gain more weight than I did with my eating habits the way they were! It didn't all get on me overnight and it won't go away overnight, but at least we have options now!

Hello Everyone!

I too am a slow loser. I had surgery in August 07 and have lost 33 pounds. I hate to even look at my fellow crazy ates weight loss. They are complaining about 50-80 pounds and here i am. I excerise and try to do what I am supposed to do.

Yesterday I found thedailyplate.com and it has helped me to see that I am really eating alot of carbs. I think I am addicited to them. My doctor had told me no more carbs... Just Protein and vegetables. But I love carbs....

I also found the 5daypouchtest.com and have started to do that also. I am willing to try anything. I really want to lose 75 more pounds.

I too had been on Weight Watchers before my band. I lost 80 pounds and put 40 back on. But not all of it. I wanted to do something before I was 300 pounds again.

Well, gotta go the treadmill is calling me...

Hello- I am totally depressed and discouraged with myself :cheers2:. I was banded in May 06 and I haven't lost ANYTHING!!! Mind you I haven't been a good girl and get filled as much as I should. I got back on track last Aug- got 2 fills (total of 4) and need to go back- but I am SO embarrassed that the doctor will call me a lost cause:blushing:. I do eat less than I used to- BUT I know I need to exercise too. It is just that getting motivated is my deal. Any tips, should I take caffenine pills? I work long hours 50-55 a week so when I get home, motivation is an issue. My husband likes to think that to motivate me is to complain and tell me that I got the surgery for a reason and now it looks like a waist of time.

I am a slow looser that needs a friend- so if anyone wants to give me some advice I WILL appreciate it.

Susan

I guess we got moved. We have a new spot on the main page where it will

be easier for people to find the rest of the slow losers.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

Hi Denise, I just saw this thread and thought i'd join as i'm definitely qualified as a slow loser!! 33 lbs in the past 9 months!! I -like you- seem to go on long periods with no weight loss and then drop a few lbs at once, so seeing your success gives me hope and keeps me from getting discouraged. :cheers2:

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for starting this thread over, the other one was way to long. I am joining you because I too feel that I am a slow loser, and I don't know when the last time I walked or exercised. I'm trying to convince myself to get my butt out there and at least walk. It doesn't help the fact that I have all the exercise equipment that I need to tone up & slim down but I lack a workout pal, working out alone is a bore to me. I need you to help me get motivated, since we are here to encourage each other I thought I would join in. When I logged in today it said I had last logged in Sept 2007 so maybe thats part of my problem, I need my lapband family so I guess it's my way of saying I'm back. We can all do it, as long as we are not gaining then we are doing good, we just need to continue to support one another and bring our ups and downs to the forum. I miss all of you and thank you for being my support team. We are all truly special because we have a gift (the band) We will make it work. I'm back for good.:cheers2:

Well you're on the right track again and I think you will see some results quickly...Good luck!!

Hi Joeboo,

My advice? maybe try going on a week of liquids and start over, and make yourself do something physical, even if its walking the stairs at work or parking farther away so you have to walk farther to get to your car. Do you track your calorie intake? that might help as well. Just knowing you need to do something is a start. The good thing is you still have the band so you can make it work for you. You already admitted that you're eating less. And, even if you haven't lost, you aren't gaining.

Joeboo,

I was not losing either and I finally decided to do something to kick start it. First thing I did was to start writting down everything I was eating. You will be surprised about what goes in your mouth when you really pay attention to it. When I knew I had to write it down I thought twice about putting it in my mouth. Second I did something I never thought I would I joined an indoor pool and I go swimming/walking /running 2-3 times a week. I even joined a Water aroebics class. I have never ever exercised but I knew I had to do something. That surgery was too big of a deal to not make it work. I have finally started to lose a little weight again still VERY slow but at leasrt its moving down, and I will tkae anything.

Good luck to you and PLEASE feel free to e-mail anytime for support at Wishes4444@aol.com

Hi All! I have been reading this thread because I, too, have become discourged - but am not giving up! The one thing my doctor keeps telling me is that it is different for everyone, and that I shouldn't worry - it WILL come off! It still bugs me that I am losing so slowly. I think it is mostly me - not enough of Protein first. I do work-out 3 times a week, and drink lots of Water. I was banded 6/5/07 and have lost only 30 lbs. 60 to go.... I go to the doctor every month and get weighed and a fill. I have 8cc in my 10cc band. I love the advice I see on here!! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks candy and Wishes-

I called to make a doc appt today- to get a fill, I have to fax the new health card and then I am ready to get my fill. I will definately take your words of wisdom and start all over. I have a south beach diet book- that I need to read again- I think it has good food ideas in it. I am going to start an exercise program- I will have to start small and work my way up, but I am doing it for myself!!!

I'll keep in touch so that you can know how I am doing-

Thanks for being there

Susan

Hi Band Chick!!!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well. I am walking 5 -6 miles a day and still only losing 2-3 pounds per week. I love my white Pinot Grigio on the weekend and I think it is killing me. Oh well... I am still losing...My restriction is amazing since my 2nd fill. Any suggestions as to how to get the Protein down??

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
