Laura, I watched the video and the first thing I noticed was the very first newscaster used to do the news here. He was new and hadn't been here very long when they brought in a new co-anchor. She was such a snot to him. He has a very warm and funny personnality and this woman was all prim and proper, you could tell she just wasn't whip about him. Well guess what? She got her wish and he was gone. I don't watch that news channel anymore. She's so snooty. I hated to see him go. Glad to see you have him now, you'll like him he's a good guy.

Oh, yesterday I walked a mile to go see "David Cook". I decided to take my chair and walk up to the parkway to see the High School band preform and to see him. He looks exactly like he does on TV. But he looked kind of pale. Everyone said the same thing. I didn't stay for the concert. There was over 10,000 people there and I was pooped. I found my neighbors in the crowd and we walked back home together. It was fun and I'm glad I did it.

The fence is going in today.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Good morning everyone!

David Archuletta is a good singer. David Cook is a good one too. They are just different types of singers. One is not necessarly better, they are both the best in their own genre of music. At this point, they will all have a great music careers. I think the person that actually wins the show has to give almost half of their earnings for 3 years (or something like that) to the American Idol show. That is what one of the previous winners had said. That stinks! If that is the case then I am glad Daughtry did not win the show. He deserves all of his money. As much as I like David C....I kind of hope he does not actually win it if that money part is true. They are both talented for sure. So is Sayisha...

Oh well...Happy Saturday! I found out a pair of my new little canvas shoes are only good if you are just standing still in them. I was dying at work yesterday while I was walking around. OMG!! I need to just go to academy and get a new pair of Keds and be done with it.

OK, it is time for a vote...what do you all think of keds with Capris? Sock, no socks? No Keds in general with Capris.

Here is my dilemma...I can not wear open toe shoes at work. I see people wearing Keds with capris and it looks OK to me but when I wear it I feel like I look stupid. What are all of your views?

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning, Violets..

It's a beautiful day here. Sun is shining and not a cloud in the sky. We're going to our Lapband support group meeting today at 11 and then off to DD Kris's house for her graduation party. I get to see my other son and his family including grandkids Mara, Everett, and Amelia. Ethan will be there so it will be fun, fun, fun!! I was so tired last night after making the potato salad, macaroni/chicken salad and deviled eggs that I fell asleep on the couch during the Tiger's game and didn't wake up til the Bobster said it was time for bed! I came in here, posted the countdown and then went to bed. Slept til 7:45 and woke up thinking about Texas!!!!!!

Everyone have a great day. Terry... hope your mom is doing better today.

Catch ya'll this evening!!

Uh.... correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the doctor tell you to NOT walk on that foot??? hmmmm????? Well, at least you had a good day! Sounds fun!

I vote for Keds but with the low-profile socks. I think they're cute! But I have never been able to wear them...they just don't fit me right. Uh, why can't you wear open-toes to work? Dress code or safety thing? If it's dress code, those guys need to move into the 21st century!! Lordy!

Morning gals

I am with Judy, NO Socks, but if you have to they have ones you can't see, but they freak me out. LOL

Terry, I can't wear open toes at work either. I am not sure what I have to wear on my feet which stinks since i have that cute little tattoo I just did. Oh well, still my dream job so that is ok, I'm sure I will get to show it off when we all go out after work, which I am sure will happen lots

I am drinking coffee, not sure what today will bring yet, so much to do and so little time now that I'm starting to work on Monday

Morning Girlies~

Keds, no socks, or the low ones. I HAVE TO wear tennis shoes...everyday. I have 2 bone spurs and no, I don't want surgery that takes 3-5 weeks to heal (I've investigated). I wear orthodics inside my tennis shoes. At first, I was devastated...wtf???tennis shoes only?? I was sad, considering at the time, I only had 1 pair of tennis shoes from wally world to work out. Well, I invested in Nikes...in nearly every color...and now I like it. I have some nice shoes to wear if I go out to somewhere nice...and I get to mostly sit! I don't miss shoes...I love my Nikes...and most importantly...MY FEET DON'T HURT!!:thumbup:

My MIL came in early...or late last night and surprised us! Which is nice, cause by the time I woke up...the food was already cookin'. I hope and pray I can eat some of it! What is it about nachos that go right in...but chicken sends me runnin'.

Have a great day! Happy Mother's Day to all my Violet Mom's. I personally HATE mother's day...I always will. But I love all of you and wish you a great day!

Another flip flopper here!!!

Before I lost weight, I lived in my birkenstocks through the summer, then I had knee surgery, and lost weight, and wow---it helped my feet!!!! Imagine!

It is windy here, pretty, blue sky but wind is blowing. I feel bad, Rick is mowing---normally something I enjoy doing, but not right now with allergies as bad as they are, and the wind blowing those lilac germs at me!!! LOL

Laura, did the tornados in Alabama come close to you?

Keds and capri's are fine---and if you prefer the feel of shoes with socks, use the shorty low ones, and it will be fine. What about the new crossover kind of shoes---they are close toed, and are considered tennis shoes, but they are kind of strappy across the top???

I was the same way Pamela, when I wore my Birks all summer, I lived the rest of the year in my Avia tenny shoes----I tried Nike, New Balance, several kinds. Then I went with my brother to have his boot built up at this place that makes orthotics, but also makes prosthetics. With my brothers injury he has to have the sole built up and a brace installed inside one of his boots. Well the guy who does it was the one to suggest birkenstocks to me, so I ask his opinion on tennis shoes. He looked at my foot---checked out how my arch withstood my walking--whether it collapsed at all----and measured my foot and told me for my foot I would be best off in Avia or something else---so I went with the Avia (we are talking over 10 years ago) and to this day I can almost walk in, and buy a pair off the shelf without even trying them on. He said if you have a tendency to roll your foot in, try Reebok, but avoid Adidas---told me all these things in how each one is made just a bit different. Some shoes your foot sits on, others it sits in.....and I need one to sit IN. Pretty wierd, he was on the money though!!

Well my Dad is here, better run!!!

BBL~~

I got a pair of birkenstocks when I was 13.. I still have them, I wore them out.. they stink something aweful too. They are worn on the outside edge from how I walk, my chiropractor years ago told me they are bad for my back and to stop wearing them. I slowly weaned out of them, and I wore them a couple months ago and they no longer 'perfectly contour' to my feet.

Our tornado siren went off on Thursday I guess it was, mid-day.. we were on a smoke break listening to it, they said it was headed toward the Space center (.5 mile from my house), but then the siren stopped, and I never heard anything else. I guess it didn't happen lol. But yesterday MIL called, asking if we were ok since she heard tornados hit Huntsville. If we had one touch down around here, it didn't do anything, because I never heard anything beside the sirens.

They said we should expect tornados tomorrow.

Tooth hurts more today than it did yesterday, and it's still kinda bleeding. Just took a painkiller, but been up since 8am. Was trying to tough it out, but it's kind of a gross pain.

Been catching up on tons of tivo.. dateline, 20/20, snapped, judge shows.. waiting for mom to call me, I am going over to help her put together some hand painted jimmy buffet beach chairs she & my dad bought last year.. then we ordered him a landshark beer surfboard sign, has a shark bite out of it.. landshark is the new jimmy buffet beer or whatever.. she's making him a little habana (sp?) hehe.

Oh Suzie I kept forgetting to respond about our news person. I don't watch local news, so I don't know any of them.. Dan Satterfield, I don't remember which station he is, but he is a looney toon. Whenever we have weather going on, he's on the tv. He makes his own warnings.. hes like 'National weather isn't declaring this a tornado warning, but by golly I AM' lol. He gets all freaked out and tries to freak out listeners. I guess if you're a transplant to the area it works, but if you are use to this weather, it's nothing. Thursday he was on there going 'OK kids if you're home alone, turn the volume all the way up, put your shoes on and get a pillow and go in the closet. Do NOT come out until you hear me tell you it's ok'.

If you really liked your Birks, Laura, a new pair would notb e bad for your back, but you do need to have bad wear patterns fixed--they can add just to sections of the sole to correct things like rolling them to the outside. But they give great support especially if you have self corrected the problem with age, and weight loss.

Gotta run to town we need a motorcycle battery for something!!

wow...then I guess it is a done deal! Thanks to all you fashionable ladies for the responses. I may have to get some low profile socks for just in case my feet start to sweat...then I would not be able to handle the no socks part.

Terri & everyone-OK, shoes were never an issue at work UNTIL...ugh, you know what, long frustrating story? I better save it for Gruene. You never know who is reading...

Tomorrow for mothers day, DH, myself, macy, my mom and stepdad are going to Lake Charles to stay the night at a really beautiful casino/hotel. The hotel sent Frank and I each a free night offer. So, he got a free one for he & I and I got my free one for mom & Gene. Sweet, huh? They have a pool that winds around and you float on a innertube....sounds familiar right? It will be the first time I wear my new bathing suit in public. Wait a minute....it will be the first time I have worn a bathing suit in public (in front of strangers) since I was about 10 years old!!! YIKES!! What a scarey thought. I will just have to walk out there like I own the place and act like it does not bother me.

Thanks again everyone! I will check in again later!:biggrin2:

See, this is just how nerdy I am.

I would say: Keds & white ankle socks.

Yep, you read that correctly. In fact, that's what I've got on my feet right now... except I'm sporting my white w/blue Mickey Mouse "keds" right now, but WITH the white, folded down ankle socks. I wear the ALL THE TIME, EVERYWHERE! Like w/the denim skirt I have on now. I'm telling you, I am your typical boring PTA-Mom style of dresser. My friend keeps threatening to nominate me for "What Not To Wear" on TLC. I must admit, tho, I AM trying to jazz up my look... I have purchased AND started wearing low-profile white socks, but it's hard to make the transition, I must admit. I was even thinking that the "outfit" (and yea, I'm using the term loosely here) I have on today I might wear on the plane next week!! Bobby socks & all!

I don't care WHAT you wear....as long as you are comfortable with yourself. That's what I say!!! Life is toooooo short to worry about what other people think.

So there.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
