Hi Everyone, it's been a long time since I've posted, but I've been trying to get caught up on all the reading that I've also missed out on. I've been on vacation so much the last 6 or 7 weeks that I got out of the habit of reading the Fifties thread. I've kept up on the March 2008 thread but not this one.

I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still doing well with my weightloss and even managed to go to Florida for a little over 2 weeks and only gained 1.8 lbs. I didn't beat myself up over it, I just came home and got back on the bandwagon and I lost 4.4 lbs this week (patting myself on my back), smiling!!

To all you newbies out there keep up the good work, I'm only out 4 months since getting my band, but it's the greatest thing that i've done for myself in a very long time. I feel so much better and have tons more energy than I've had in a very long time.

Just wanted you all to know that I'm still around and the weight is moving downward in the right direction, I'll post more later.

Hey Teri - Glad you are ok and doing well. My trainer says that those lbs we gain on vacation or a 3 day weekend should come off really fast once we get back on track - so you are proof that he's right..

Tomorrow makes one week. I can't wait for morning so I can have a full liquid. Someone told me to try carnation instant Breakfast. Does anyone have an opinion on this. As long as its not chicken broth or Jello I'm open to any suggestions. Love this site.:frown::crying::eek:

I make a Protein Shake every morning (I can't eat anything in the morning, the band is real tight). I use 1 1/2 cups of skim milk, a carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added), some extra Protein (I have been using whey protein but it gives me gas so I just bought some soy protein to see if it is better) I put in about 1 Tbsp, and a spoon of benefiber. I usually make a chocolate shake. This morning I used vanilla instant breakfast and put in some fresh strawberries.

Good luck,:biggrin2:

Happy Monday all you Fit and Fiesty Fifties!

I am feeling "on top of the world." :tt1:

It has been 6 seeks since my banding and I am getting stronger every day. I have had 2 fills and they are definatley working.

Last night when I was getting into the shower I visualized myself in a year! :crying: I could seen a new person! :biggrin2:

For those of you who have not been banded yet and having doubts, :frown: Fear NOT! :tt2: The process to get banded is a difficult one  and if you make it through that and the doctors approve you, then you have half the battle won!

As Janet proclaims everyday, :huh2: the rest of the battle will have to be your doing!

At times in the beginning it gets  discouraging, your band isn't filled yet and you are sore and swollen from surgery and your brain hasn't accepted the band yet. You want to eat and you can't and then you can and you think "Is this it?" No! Just give it time and work at learning the "new" way!

I am certain I have many challenges ahead of me! The information and support of LBT is wonderful and I know my friend here are in the same boat!

OK--So, I go to a singles dance last night and this nice looking man asks me to dance. We're dancing and laughing and have a good time for about 15 minutes, when he asks if I am going to take him home with me. I said, "that ain't gonna happen." (I may have lost weight, but I'm still a lady.) He wasn't interested in dancing with me anymore. Part of me was insulted---but (and I know y'all will get this)--part of me was thrilled!!!!

Oh me too, I'd love to be on that show. I do get some good pointers from watching it. I have a hair appt on Tues (week from tomorrow) and am sortta considering doing something different. We'll see. thought maybe the new me needed a new 'do but maybe I should wait til I've lost more weight.

Speaking of losing, I do need to stop the daily weighing. It was just so much fun as it was dropping so rapidly but now it's slowed a tad. In fact today showed a gain and I was mortified. Maybe I should stick to Thursdays as that was my banding day, though my fill days seem to be Mondays, heck even twice a week would be an improvement from twice a day!

Hi, just checking in. Finally my body has adjusted to the Optifast regimen. I don't feel so miserable any more, thank goodness. I can't believe I'll be having surgery next week! :crying:

Time to start packing while the laundry is clean! LOL

Greetings all.... I am bummed as I have not lost weight in four weeks. I have been faithful with sticking under 1300 calories, swimming laps 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes and just plain stuck at 271 pounds!! I had my first fill 7 days ago and nothing yet. I really don't feel much restriction, and I called and they said to come in for a second fill on Aug 4th. It is common????????

Lots of folks say they "see" me losing, but the scales sure don't show it!!

Oh well, not giving up...but sometimes I feel like I never had the surgery!

Any suggestions??

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
