Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

I am almost in CA. I am 100 miles north of the CA border, right on the coast.

Those swamp coolers are pretty nice. My dad keeps his garage cool with one. I understand they don't work well when the humidity gets up there though. I can't even imagine being pregnant in the desert.

I planned both my pregnancies so I would not be pregnant in the summer.

Janet...all good ideas for curbing that sweet tooth. Another healthy fruity dessert I like is: I slice a banana add a tsp of low fat sour cream, add some equal and i really feel like i'm having a banana split. It's a healthy snack and filling. Satisfys me every time. Anyone else have any good snack ideas they'd like to share??

It looks like I'm the new "kid on the block" in this 50's group, but just got my lapband surgery 3/26/08 in Mazatlan, MX. I'm doing pretty well, especially now that I have moved on to at least mushies! I am the office manager for my brother's (and 2 other docs) medical practice in Eastern WA State. I have 4 grown children and 4 (5 in Sept!) wonderful, fun grandkids. I've been on every diet under the sun over the years and have lost and gained 40+ lbs many times. I'm hoping and praying this will be a good answer for me. My brother (not the DR...another one) had the surgery over a year ago and is doing wonderfully. Started walking this morning and it felt good:rolleyes2:

Starting weight: 260 lbs.

Surgery weight: 252 lbs.

Current weight: 242 lbs.

Welcome Tami - Congrats on your band - we do have a couple of March Babies who have joined our little gang.

I'm Janet aka IndioGirl%%

I have 1 grown Son 3 Grandkids 17 13 4 - the 17 yr old lives with me

I was banded 7/17 - doing great feeling 10yrs younger and if you go back a page you can see the before and almost to goal pics of me that I posted on Sunday.

The band is the greatest tool - since I really didn't have one down fall - i just ate too much good home cooked foods and didn't exercise - I gotta say for me this hasn't been that hard of a ride - I just use my band with all that I have learned from all those other diets and I exercise.

We have a great group - happy to have you join us..

Thanks for the great hello! I know much of this banding deal has to do with common sense. It seems just a great tool to help eat smaller portions...hopefully, of the right kinds of food. I'm sure exercise is a key ingredient. I usually don't post online, but was drawn to your no-nonsense insight.

Thanks Tami

I call my band my interior motivator - and also gotta tell you that you have to take that word "hopefully" out of your vocabulary!!!!

Posititive Affrimations - I will make the right food choices !!!!!

You are going to be fighting with yourself enough over food chocies - so you don't need that little word "hope" to derail the "i will"

I read the calorie content and Protein grams of everything I put in my mouth - I keep a food diary (I am a WW girl) i count calories & Protein grams - and I have had ppl tell me that they didn't get banded to diet and track - but as a fat person we dont' know what a portion size is we don't know how many grams of protein are in 4 oz of meat (7 grms per ounce)

I use my food diary as a learning tool - and it keeps me honesty too - it's so easy to forget 50 calorie here and there but they add up..

For me I find talking to my friends here a great source of motivation support and accountablity and it also becomes our transfer addiction - but it's sure and the heck better than the alternative (drinkiing gambleing etc)

Phyll, you should pm me and I will give you my phone #. It's not even long distance from Myrtle Point!

Welcome Tami!

Janet, I didn't even know your grandson lives with you. I don't think I could live with a teenager anymore.

I had the best time at support group tonight. My surgeon came and answered questions all evening. He is so great. He talked all about bowel obstructions. Didn't even know that was a possibility with the band, but he said it's from scar tissue.

It's finally here! After a couple of "bumps in the road," my surgery is less than 6 hours away. :scared2:

This is to ask all y'all who pray to add me to your list, and especially pray for PhotoEgor. He's WAY more nervous about this than I am, and he's driving me to the hospital

Also, to our atheist , agnostic, etc. friends, please do whatever it is you do: send us "good vibes," or whatever. We'll take any help we can get!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
