Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

Lynn, today is my 6th day post-op also and I've had a pretty rough day also. My stomach was really gassy all morning, then diarhea set in (TMI, sorry). I also was really tired and laid down to take a nap only to be awakened by my case manager from the disability group from work letting me know that my time off work is covered through next Monday, so at least I can quit worrying about that. But I've felt like I've been run over by a truck today. I haven't got much liquid down today either. So far I've got in about 32 grams of Protein but only about 24 oz of Water, my stomach just didn't feel like taking on any more. I start my Vitamins tomorrow, so maybe that will help with my tiredness.

I have a question for you 50's? What did your dr. recommend for Vitamins post surgery? Are they in the liquid form? Can you fill me in please? I am trying to get things lined up a little ahead of time. Thanks

I am taking 2 vivactin caramel chewable vitamins for my Calcium, the caramel flavor helps my sweet tooth, and 2 children's chewable for the next few weeks, eventually it will be 1 chewable children's Vitamin

I am getting in at least 40 oz of liquid and 35-50 gm Protein daily, as well as sf Jello and popsicles. Gas did start yesterday, glad I m home and not around others!!!!! Gas-X strips are so helpful.

Not too tires now, I did a couple of short walk today and have been enjoying reading good book.

Thanks for the info. I will pick up some Centrum. I am unable to take Calcium (I get kidney stones and was told to not supplement the calcium). I picked up some liquid B-12 for after the surgery. Thanks for your tips.

Janet...thanks for the info. Just want to be ready and have things on hand when I finally get my surgery date. I ordered a few different Protein Drinks and bought a few different powders. I believe getting the Protein in the liquid stages will be the toughest for me. I am not a milk drinker and never have been. Don't like ice cream even. Nothing milky. But, I will make the most of it. Like you said above....you gotta do what you gotta do. I also ordered the sugar free/calorie free Davinci flavoring to add to my Protein Shakes, coffee, etc. I bought my broth paste, flax oil and flax seed. I think I should be set once I get my Vitamins. Thanks everyone for your info. Karen

Citracal Chews... Caramel, lemon and chocolate. I did a little research on the internet... all those other calcium chewables are calcium CARBONATE rather than calcium citrate and as Janet said, the Calcium Citrate absorbs MUCH better than the Carbonate. The Citracal Chews can be found at both Rite Aid and Albertson's. You just might have to bug the pharmacist a bit about keeping them in stock. I prefer the chocolate. First time I bought them Rite Aid only had Caramel, so I went through a box of those and in the meantime I found them at Albertson's. I bought the only two boxes of chocolate that they had and when I went back for more several weeks later they had NONE in any flavor! When we get home I will make sure our local Rite Aid carries the chocolate for me!

I take the Centrum Silver Chewable when I can find them. I have been able to swallow Multivitamins and even my Omega 3's lately.. I found a smaller version of the Omega 3 somewhere... I think it was Rite Aid, too. I'm afraid when I get another adjustment next month, I may not be able to swallow all this stuff I'm taking right now. I found some smaller Citracal tabs, but they made the stupid things SQUARE!! Can you imagine??? Why... if you're going to try to make something easier to swallow would you make it SQUARE!!???? I'm getting them down, but only because I couldn't get my Citracal chews. When they're gone... I'm going on a new search for the chewables... like I say, hopefully my local Rite Aid!!

Right after surgery I used Shaklee liquid Multivitamin and it was the most awful stuff I ever tasted!! I kept taking it because it cost me an arm and a leg, but I couldn't wait until it was gone!!!

I think I'll be looking for another chewable Vitamin, my chewable children from BJ's are kind of nasty tasting , maybe I'll give them to my grandson and see if her likes them lol

The lemon chiffon sounds delicious, have to check those out. As well as calcium citrate you want to look for it with Vitamin D. The Vitamin D does help the body absorb the calcium.. Even with a bone scan and my DR telling me I should not need extra Calcium, still gonna take it, my mom had severe osteoporosis.

Hello Everyone, I have not been posting very much lately but I wanted to drop by and say hi again. Janet, you are doing great I see. There are a lot of new folks posting that I don't know. Hello to all of the new folks. Janet, I am doing my best to exercise now. Sometimes, my knees won't allow much walking but I do it when I can. I am just getting started with the exercise. I walked for 15minutes tonight andwant to increase that gradually. Janet, how is it going with the trainer? I think I would like to have a trainer too maybe someday. Well, just dropping by to say hi to all. Hope everyone is doing good. I have sent a few friend request out too. Take care, Brenda

Hey Brenda - I was wondering where you were at... Great on getting started on exercising - It takes awhile to get in the groove I totally understand - I have done it gradually too - started our 20 25 minute and have worke myself up each month - if you keep it up and make it a routine of yours it gets eaiser - (you know us older people are very routine - dont mess with our schedules)- I am lucky my knees aren't too bad (knee caps hurt sometimes on the weight machine but not walking) I can't say I am a gym rat by anymeans - but i don't hate it - I would say I like it and I do miss it if I don't go - but I won't allow myself not to go - cuz if i do then I will get out of the routine and lose all motivation and we all know how hard it is to regain it

I LOVE my trainer - he is really nice - x-body builder but still really musclie.. (if that's a word) Yesterday he said 150 would be a good weight for me cuz I am large boned - that I would be too skinny under that - ya right me too skinny - so if I go with that I have 19.5 more to go - but for now I am leaving my ticker at 160 -I want to each that goal - then I may increase it to 150. - I did the treadmill for the first 8 months and didn't feel confident enought prior to now to even approach a trainer - you know that fat girl insecurities - but now that I thinner - I do have more confidence -

Yep we have some new March Babies joining us  The more the merrier I always say..

Well, phone just rang - gotta go - ttyl...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
