Onederland! Bravo!

It will be a long trip to there from here, but today I take another step on the path with my 4th fill this morning.

I am a little anxious that I will be too tight, but not worried about it. I need a couple days liquid and mushies to get control again.

Joann, I know that it must have seemed like this day would never come. But here it is! I know you will do great, and I'm holding you in my prayers. Check in when you feel up to it and let us know how you are.

Hugs,

Orea - so good to hear you are 80 pounds lighter - and they are gone forever, Girlfriend!! You seem to have found your place in all this, and back to the losing game again.

Lisalee - congratulations on Onderland! I look forward to that day myself.

and thank all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers. I have been very excited all week, today a bit more subdued. After all this time and talk - its just about here. Long - it is 9:50am here and tomorrow at this time they will be letting me drift off into lala land as I count backward from 100 to 99!

HI. I am 54 and have had a failed gastroplasty 26 years ago. I have just contacted Dr. Miguel Zapata in monterrey Mexico and asked for a lapband. Have any of you had him as your surgeon? I live in alberta canada so my hubby plans to come with me to Mexico so I am not alone. Can anyone tell me if it is painful having the fills? Any advise is greatly appreciated!!! thanks:smile:

Welcome! The fills are just a poke with a needle. Two pokes, if they numb you first. Not bad at all.

Hi all, I am just home on my lunch hour so I will post to everyone later. I just wanted to share that I was able to get a fill today. I am so excited.

I was at 3.0 in a 4cc band when I was having the trouble of throwing up in my sleep. He took out 1 cc for a month

but put 1/2 cc back in today. I really hope that problem does not come back. Having only 2ccs in there felt like I had no band at all.

I think I will be able to take of the almost 10 lbs I gained.

I have high hopes anyway, seeing all the holiday cheer being spread around this month.

Congrats on Onederland, Liza!

Orea, you are an inspiration to us all....what an amazing job you have done (and are still doing).

Joanne: you will do beautifully with your band. Your attitude and good habits, even before the band,, will pay off for you soon.

I haven't posted in a while for 2 reasons: I have been soooo busy at school (lots of new little ones and meetings out the ears, not to mention enough papers to bury myself in!), and I have been stuck. My weight loss is slow, much slower than I would like, but I am eating small amounts, Protein first and occasional small amounts of low-carb veggies. For Snacks, I will eat a handful of almonds, a sf popsicle, or a Dannon lite yogurt, frozen. Lots of Water. Lots of walking. So I know it will come off. You all keep me motivated by your inspiring posts. Thanks so much and Merry Chrstmas to all!

Nancy

Hi AThinner Denise,

My surgeon emptied my band just before he operated to repair my last hernia and is not going to refil it for another two months to allow my inards to heal. Problem is that I still have the reflux and constant loud large burping problems. It feels as if it stays in my esophagus and I have to make sure it all comes up so that I can lie down in peace and comfort.

That helps the reflux but the burping can continue all day and is so uncomfortable as well as embarrassing. Any suggestions?

Best wishes.

Katy...I am really surprised that your doc unfilled you for your hernia surgery. I know there is not a bariatric surgeon out there that thinks like another on most things...I had hernia repair two months ago and doc did not unfill. In fact, had my fill two days b/4 surgery. I had over ten hernias and adhesions to repair. My point is that there is such a variation between docs.

I hope your gurd or whatever is going on with you does not continue to give you problems.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
