January Exercise - HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)

I'm so getting that book Stef. I'm really alarmed as to how much muscle I have lost with the weight loss. Ughh..I'm really trying to get focused on strength training.

Ok, I'm on the no dairy kick because of the Skinny Bitch book, which I finished yesterday and was completely disgusted by. But it was a good book.

Stef, I'll PM you my stats.

Yay!! Another Skinny Bitch convert. :)

Really? You call everyone daddy? I love it! I call everyone "Honey"! Men, women, kids...doesn't matter...they are all "Honey"! I think it's a Texas thing, ya know? :)

I call everyone "honey" or "sweety" or "darlin"... and I use a lot of "kiddo" I think it's just a nurse thing for me. Lol. I never did it until I got into nursing.

Well, obviously my errands didn't take very long, because I am back here....my home away from home this place is!

I go to the gym in about an hour...I can't wait...I'm changing up my workouts starting today to lift really heavy with fewer reps.

I bought a book last night called "New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess" and it is AWESOME! It vehemently states that if you want to transform your shape, you MUST lift! I already know this to be true, as my body has changed so much since I started lifting in October/November. It is truly amazing! Ladies, you have GOT to get this book! Or at least go to the book store and look at it yourself to see if this couldn't be true for you as well.

I'll check out this book. Thanks.

I also have a few other books on my list... John Bingham writes books on running marathons.. I wanna get those too.

OOOhh Stef,

That book sounds great. I am definitely going to check it out. Thanks. I am still steering clear of Skinny Bitch :::ducking away shamefully:::: I am just not ready to know.

Karey-I love your new photo. You look beautiful, and not grandmotherly in the least! You keep on working it at the gym. Sounds like you are making great progress.

Suzzie-what kind of nursing do you do? I just finished RN school last month. Phew!

I'm an LPN. Working on an Oncology ward. It's awesome. I'm hoping to finish my RN this year so I can move to Texas next spring.

Biceps and triceps again today. I know we just did them on Friday, but we only had an hour today, so that was the most logical choice. I went really heavy for me, and loved it! My arms are getting bigger, for sure...I love it! I really had to push myself to do that much weight, but it sure felt good!

OK Stef - I just ordered that book you mentioned. Also ordered "The Nonrunner's Marathon Guide for Women: Get Off Your Butt and On with Your Training" I'll let you know how they are when I get them. I need to get myself PUMPED for this spring when I can really get into 'bycycling' and hopefully running!

Stefanie, I was just checking out your book recommendation and I had a question for you. When you are working out upper body, how heavy of a weight are you lifting? I read a summary of the book on Amazon and it seems as if they are promoting heavy weights, lower reps, versus my trainer whose saying lower weights, more reps. I only ask because I used to train with my bf back in the day and we did low reps/heavy weights, and I thought I looked pretty good. I signed on with this new trainer in september 07 up through now and I have noticed a difference, but not huge......I know everyone has a different theory on this, but I guess I'm just confused now! Everyone else, feel free to give input!

jm-I've got a book you might be interested in. It's all about higher weights, slower movement and less repetitions. It has really helped me and was recommended by my personal trainer. "The Slow Burn Fitness Revolution" by Fredrick Hahn, and Michael R. Eades, M.D., and Mary Dan Eades, M.D. The Eades' are the ones that wrote the book Protein Power, kind of like the Atkins Diet, high protein, low carb diet. Check it out and tell me what you think.

I managed to hop on the recumbent bike for 30 minutes and get in a good, short workout. It's a good thing because I then reported for jury duty and I was selected! The trial is expected to last through Thursday. It's a good thing I spent the weekend getting ready for school next week or I'd be really stressed out right now!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
