Gastric bypass on 12/01/25

I am having my surgery December 1st and I know we supposed to have clear liquid diet and protein and water, water, water. But my question is can you have tomato soup? It's liquidy, it's vegetarian. I'm just curious because the protein shakes just does not agree with my stomach but I do have some whey protein that's coming tomorrow, a big huge bucket of it that I ordered. But can I eat tomato soup? Well drink it, liquid soup.

I presume you’re referring to the post surgery diet? Generally you can have tomato soup but once you're past the clear liquid stage & in the general liquid stage . Clear liquids are just that: clear. Tomato soup is not clear. Bone broth is a good option in the clear & again in the general liquid stages being both clear and protein rich.

How many days are you on clear liquids? It’s usually not for long and to get you through the initial healing stage when things are very ‘raw’. Then each subsequent stage continues to support your healing (which takes a good 6 weeks).

Hi, I just had my gastric bypass on 12/1 as well. Also a vegetarian but making an exception at the moment and drinking broth. I also find the protein shakes heavy on my stomach. According to my surgeon’s instructions, I’m allowed zero sugar, non fat Greek yogurt and unsweetened almond milk. I’ve found the Greek yogurt (Oikos zero) settles better on my stomach but I she to let it sort of melt in my mouth. Also mixing the protein shake and the almond milk helps.

I wanted ask how you’re doing overall? I am slowly working my way up to my liquid and protein goals, but have not been able to reach them yet. I’m about halfway there. I’m still experiencing bloating. Not hungry and feel full as soon as I drink something. But I found that today, post op day 4, I’m wanting real food very badly despite not being hungry. I just sniffed a Ritz cracker that my husband is eating.
