GROSS warning: Vomitting when Flu hits

Recommended Posts

Ok, not PB's..not even over doing it...

When you are ill, and vomit (regularly) how painful is that? Your sick body doesn't know to take it easy and do it slowly..........

Thankfully I haven't had that kind of sickness for more than three years but I know I was panicked, sweaty, and gasping/wreching for a while.

Can you break the band? Can you harm the esophogus?

Susan

Hi Susan,

Apparently there is an 'anti-vomiting' injection you can get from the dr/hospital, & I would strongly recommend getting it if you are vomiting.

I was banded in January this year, & a couple of months ago I had a vomiting virus. I was too sick to even remember about the injection. 5 weeks ago I had agonising pain after a visit to a new gym. It turned out to be a band slip - I spent a few days in hospital, & had my band totally unfilled. I don't start getting fill back until mid-January. I'm lucky my band didn't have to be removed or replaced.

My surgeon thinks that the vomiting started the slip, & working on new/different weights equipment at the gym completed it.

I'm a bit frustrated, as I feel the same (hunger levels) as pre-band. I had perfect restriction & had worked hard this year to shed 50kg (110#), & only had 22# to go to 'ideal' weight. Now I'm sruggling a little, & basically starting the fill thing over again. Wish i'd remembered the vomiting injection advice!

No, you can't break a band. It's pretty sturdy.

But you can slip. When you vomit the lower stomach is kinda sorta pushed up through the band and that is what a slip is, when the lower stomach slides up through the band.

There are several drugs that can be used. Some are tablets, some are suppositories, and some are by injection. There are several by injection. Zofran, Phenergan, Benadryl, etc. The same meds by injection usually come in oral form too. Some are even SL tablets that dissolve under your tongue.

BTW, the flu is actually upper respirtory, not GI. Influenza is coughing, sneezing, achy muscles, etc. Stomach issues are (9 times out of 10) something bad you ate, or a form of food poisoning.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
