Price change

Are there other injections for people who have gerd issues? I saw someone mentioned it, but couldn’t find the name of the 2 injections that were mentioned.

Esomeprazole (Nexium) and Pantoprazole (Protonix) are available as injections for GERD, but The BariatricPal Store doesn't offer them now.

I might not have asked my question properly. For people that already have Gerd combine with gastric sleeve or gastric bypass, the popular glp1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, semaglutide mostly would aggravate the Gerd condition.

Is this program only prescribing these popular medications for weight loss? Are there other medications/injections that can help weight loss without side effect of acid reflux?

I heard that reflux could be a side effect of taking GLPs, but I went on a low dosage of Tirzeptitde 6 weeks ago, lost 27 pounds, and am at my goal weight. Before losing weight, I took 40 MG of Omeprazole in the morning and another 40 MG in the evening. Since losing this weight, I've switched to once in the morning and have almost zero reflux! Losing the extra weight did the trick for me.

BariatricPal does offer Saxenda (Liraglutide), Contrave (Bupropion/Naltrexone), Phentermine-Topiramate (Qsymia), and Tirzepatide in lower doses, which are known to cause less or no reflux. I’m surprised no one has asked “how much does it cost?”

I currently get compounded Tirezeptide and it’s $299.
I was able to do the lowest dose the whole time and have lost 25lbs.
I don’t want to lose anymore. So I tapered off of it.
But I think it’s great!

Probably because it varies depending on mg prescribed and type (brand name) of the meds. Plus, if your insurance will cover it or not.

I am no longer recognized as Sophie7713, and considered pre op, new and no threads. Can this be reset on your end!? I've tried everything on my end!...)☹️

I'd like to loose 25 - 30 pounds since a decrease of 1 ½" in height loss since sleeve surgery in 2018.

I have been most apprehensive of Tirzepatide or any injections (actually very afraid, as I take no meds except vitamins and levothyroxine over the years...) but the scale is just not moving even with healthy eating and exercise.

May I pose a few questions:

1. Alex, did you need to remain on shots after losing 27 pounds? Are you forever committed now to remaining on this medication to maintain - even if one adheres to healthy eating and exercise plan?

2. Will one regain the lost pounds if shots are stopped?

3. Are the shots painful?

4. How quickly do the shots work? What is the average weight loss pounds per week?

5. How long does one plan for losing 30 pounds?

6. Any noticeable side effects?

Hi Sophie, glad you flagged that. Your Adelene Keeler Smith account is tied to your Facebook login with your Earthlink email, but your longtime Sophie7713 account uses your iCloud email. I went ahead and merged this account back into Sophie7713, so your posts and history are restored.

As for your questions:

1. I lost 40 lbs, and I’m at my goal now, the lowest adult weight I can remember. A big side effect for me is that I no longer suffer from hypoglycemia, which is huge. I can finally eat sushi without my blood sugar crashing. Because of that, I’d continue taking Tirzepatide just for that benefit. I’m on the lowest dosage now and plan to stay on it long term.

2. I’d lean toward most likely yes, people do regain if they stop.

3. The needle is very small. For me, it’s almost painless. The first time can feel intimidating, but once you do it you realize it’s nothing.

4. I noticed results quickly. On average, people lose about 1 to 3 pounds per week, but it varies.

5. Losing 25 to 30 pounds could take a few months, depending on your starting point and dosage.

6. Side effects vary. Some people have it worse than others. The most common is nausea, especially at the beginning, but it usually improves as your body adjusts.

I can’t give medical advice, but I can share my own experience.

Most everything I've read in the last couple of weeks says that the FDA no longer allows pharmacies or physicians to compound or dispense compounded tirzepatide injections. How does this affect the BariatricPal program? I don't want to risk starting with you then having things change.

Great question! I totally get your concern. The FDA ended the allowance for pharmacies to make mass-produced copies of tirzepatide once the shortage was officially over. That rule was aimed at pharmacies that were essentially producing unbranded duplicates of Lilly’s drug.

What we’re offering through the BariatricPal program isn’t that. The partner pharmacies we work with provide customized versions for patients, rather than just bulk copies. That makes them different in the FDA’s eyes. The program was set up to continue even after the shortage ended, so you won’t see it disappear on you after you start.

Nope, we received a cease and desist from big Pharma and decided to discontinue the program.
