Hi Arendiva. For me, really not too bad. I took Percocet the first few nights, only to ensure I sleep. Otherwise, Tylenol was fine. Good luck!

I’m two days post op… I’m struggling with getting my required Water and Protein. I’ve noticed more of an after taste with my pea Protein Powder that I’m having a hard time ignoring. I thought id be thrilled to get my soy/almond milk mixed Protein Shakes back (I wasn’t allowed dairy in preop diet) but I’m finding dairy difficult- lots of coughing (ouchy). I’m gonna go back to water tomorrow. Anyone else?

I had my surgery 10/20 I’m still in the hospital because I wasn’t able to progress to stage two. I have been having trouble keeping fluids down. Things have improved these past few hours though so I’m hoping to get back home tomorrow.

Hang in there Arendiva! Everyone has their own experience! You'll be out and on to Stage 2 in no time!

I was approved to go home on the afternoon of the 22nd. I’m doing much better now that I’m home since I have a much better selection of stage 1 and stage 2 foods at home. Hitting my Fluid goal is still a challenge but I’m determined to push through. On the bright side I have very little pain.

Hi there fellow October buddies! I'm currently four days post op for gastric bypass. Man has this been quite the journey. Can't wait to get off these pain meds. They make me so woozy. I had my hydration infusion today and going for another on Monday. I think it's interesting how many different things each provider is having people do for various types of surgery. I had to do 1 week of Protein Shake diet and Water only. I chose to do 12 days since doc ordered a liver biopsy based on my early 20s alcoholic hep of the liver. Still waiting on those results. Hoping 15 years of drinking minimally gave it a chance to heal somewhat. My beginning weight at the whole process in March 2023 was 284. After starting my life changing habits, I held steady at 268-274. After liquid diet I went down to 256. We shall see how the next few weeks go.

Hi everyone! This is my first post on the boards. I had my surgery on 10/23. I'm feeling pretty good but I'm nervous about going back to work. I know I still need to have my Protein Shakes throughout the day. But I guess I'm just nervous about being tempted by the things people bring in. Going back to work next week so wish me luck!

Good luck!! You can do it!! Just remind yourself of your whys and your goals when you are tempted. And bring nutritious Snacks so that you have something to substitute that you like when hunger strikes or someone is trying to push something tempting on you!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
