What Made You Smile Today?

I love my legs. I used to have tree trunks and fat ankles

That's so worth smiling about. I can't wait till swelling in my feet and ankles is completely gone and find out what shoe size I will eventually end up with. :)

I realized I continue to wear clothing that is getting too big for me. I think it's because it makes me feel good knowing I've dropped weight. Kinda like people who enjoy their loose skin.... 🤭

I might have done that on purpose last week lol. I wore a shirt that is 2 sizes bigger than my current shirts to the office. I got a ton of comments from my colleagues which was nice haha. I think I missed people's commenting on my weight loss which has stopped for a while now.

Haha, nothing wrong with that. Always good to hear the compliments.

Until I get closer to a normal weight, tighter clothes still make me feel big. I know it's a head thing because I know smaller sizes can be more slimming.

But it is nice to hear that initial WOAH response when people see me. Makes me smile :)

I started binge watching Mike and Molly TV show when I was recovering from surgery. For a few different reasons:

One, never watched it before and found it made me laugh. It deals a lot with food and struggling to lose weight as well.

Two, my doctor calls me funny lady. Says I make her laugh and remind her of Melissa McCarthy. I'll take that. Loved her on SNL and the movie Bridesmaids too.

Three, Billy Gardell. Have you seen this guy's transformation after Gastric Bypass??? Amazing. He's quite open about how he lost the weight publicly. Said he wants to live to see his son get married.

His weight loss makes me smile. People talking negatively about his choices, not so much. People are saying he's no longer funny after the weight loss. I blame it on his new sitcom though. Do you think people are less funny after losing weight?

Check this out...

I would think so too. I'd hate to think my doctor or anyone else not find me funny anymore after I drop my weight. LOL

It's referring to the video. I've heard it a million times people saying that people are no longer funny thin. Usually, actors or comedians. I myself think it's BS. xD

Music makes me smile...going to concerts makes me even happier. This modern day Led Zeppelin was amazing to see live. Since my weight gain, I quit going to shows because it was too hard to get from the car to my seat. But someone bought me a ticket so I went. 7/22 No regrets. I plan to attend many more in the near future as I become more mobile :)

This made me smile today because I love nature. I even got a job at a nature camp this summer which I would not have been able to do without WLS.

Funny could be off during weight loss faze if the hormones are really out of wack, maybe? You’re still you after surgery lumps and all, just less physical lumps!

Nature camp. That sounds fun. What all does that entail @learn2cook?

My scale chugged down 2 pounds this morning. At over 18 months out and still loosing is so pleasing. I had a two month stall in March and April, I thought my run was over but no, its still going down. I think I will have this smug smile on my face all day.

That's really encouraging to hear @summerseeker. I hope my scale continues that downward direction when I reach 1 1/2 years out too. Smiles well earned :)

Nature camp is all day M-F outside (except thunderstorms) with 4-14 yr olds climbing, canoeing, hiking and learning about the environment. We teach nature/science things the kids are interested in. We found a vernal pool yesterday on a trail to show the kids on Monday. There were tadpoles with some legs coming out. Each age group will get about 45 minutes to experience the tadpoles. We’ll keep visiting to see the frogs emerge. I wasn’t mobile enough for hiking all the trails before WLS. I grew up in the woods and didn’t realize how much I missed greenery while I live in the city.

Very cool job!!! Must feel amazing for you getting back to nature. The way you describe it...I can almost smell the pine trees. :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
