Ugggg, I forgot how much the preop diet sucks. I'm being revised from a lapband to gastric bypass on July 6. My band has been unfilled since December, so I've been able to eat normally since then.

My current surgeon has me doing two weeks of shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch, healthy choice steamer for dinner. Last time I did all liquids, staying under 20 grams of carbs, but it was only for a week.

From what I remember, the first days of the preop diet are the worst and then I kinda got numb and it wasn't so bad. But I'm in the thick of it now. And staring down two full week of this is daunting. I made it last time, I'll make it this time, but just uggg.

Yes its the worst. After four or five days you will feel less hungry and just knuckle down and get on with it. I had three weeks. I just could not wait for it to end it is so boring. It felt like some cruel game some Doctor had conjured up just to make their day better. The diets are so random from doctor to doctor

Days 1-3 were the WORST for me. Day 4 was when it was easier. But those first 3 days?? Oh man, they were miserable. Pre-op and post-op liquid diets are the worst. Luckily they only last a short time.

I agree with SleeveDiva! Those first 3 days are the WORST. I gave up my coffee cold turkey too knowing full well the headache it would give me. I was miserable lol. But by day 4, it was better. Hang in there. You can do it!!!

I gave up diet soda. I literally went through a 2 liter a day. Not kidding. I'm SURE that contributed to the misery of my pre op diet. BUT...at 2 1/2 months post op...I still haven't had any soda at all. I get my caffeine from the Fairlife coffee Protein Shake I have in the morning (caffeine and protein...YUM lol).

The second I was allowed caffeine at 3 months post op, I went right back to my coffee!
I don't know if you will be allowed diet soda in the future but you may not even like it if you are.
I lived for sparkling Water before and now if I try to drink it, it causes this uncomfortable pressure feeling in my stomach. I don't like it anymore!
I make a smoothie every morning with coffee, almond milk, and Protein Powder. I didn't even know Fairlife had a coffee Protein Shake. It's so hard to find around here. I feel like I've been robbed! [emoji23]

Both of these have caffeine and 30g of Protein, and actually taste REALLY good:

Oh yes I used to drink the Premier one all the time. I started making my morning coffee smoothie and switched to that, but I'd love to try the Fairlife!
Thanks for the link!

My revision to sleeve is happening 8/22 and this is one of my fears. I know I can do it because I’ve done it before but I am still so nervous about it. I hope your got through it ok. And that your surgery went well.

I made it. My dietician said that if I needed to, I could eat plain vegetables. And that is what saved me during week 2 of the prep-op diet. I ate A LOT of steamed broccoli with salt and spinach with the lightest Italian dressing I could find. It saved me. I lost 10 pounds over the two weeks and I’ve lost another 10 since surgery. My surgery went great. You can do it!!!!!

Fairlife became impossible to find near me. It got to the point I just order bulk through Amazon. I'm holding off on making any large orders until post-op considering I'm not sure If I will still enjoy it as much.

I've become obsessed with veggie kabobs on the grill, Zucchini, mushrooms, peppers & onions especially!

Yeah that's what I have to do with my Protein powder. No one carries it so I get it off Amazon. Maybe I'll get some Fairlife there too. I don't use shakes much now, but my husband had his surgery in May and he still does.
It's a good idea not to get too many before your surgery though.. I couldn't stand Premier after. I will say Fairlife is the only one I could stand.. It got me through! I could only find vanilla around here though.

OMG I just had a salad for lunch and now want this for dinner! Yes, veggies are your friend during the pre op diet. They will be your friends again after you are fully healed. Yumm.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
