It is pretty normal to have a healthy amount of fear about the surgery. If it’s more than just jitters though, perhaps you could meet with the bariatric therapist to try to work through your fears. Or the surgeon (or NP) if they are about the technical stuff.

That is probably just nerves. Every one of us was at a minimum apprehensive about it. Think about anything you have done that was difficult, and said, afterwards, oh, that wasn't all that bad. Think about 3 months from now, when you will see results! I personally subscribe to Scarlett O'Hara's thinking--I'll worry about that later, and find something to distract yourself. Don't let the heebie jeebies win!

Nope not at all. You have major surgery scheduled. Being scared or panicked is okay. Reach out to your team and talk to them, and they will help alleviate your fears. Just remember you have done so much to be proud of, a few more steps and onto a healthier lifestyle!

I remember crying as I was being wheeled in to have a C section for my first daughter. I was terrified and the nurses were worried and got my OB. He lectured me like a father! I eventually pulled myself together, but it was so odd. It just hit me out of the blue. I think having sudden fears in the face of the unknown is totally okay. Just don't give in to panic. Everyone is trying to help and you won't be alone.

Crying is helping to deal with the tension and fear that you may be feeling. Want a good cry? Then have one. Want to have this Op then one foot in front of the other. You dont have to get this surgery done at all. You can stop everything if you really want to. Do what is right for you and your body. You got this.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I live in Connecticut and well I am totally new to this topic. I have recently been doing research and reading about gastric sleeve surgery for myself. As to the topic of being nervous and crying, I think that is totally normal. When we all make this decision it is no little choice we are making a choice that is ultimately going to change our lives. So, in my opinion, I would be worried if someone was not worried... Is anyone here from Connecticut?

Thank you everyone for all the emotional support..
I just miss both of my parents. The both passed away from heart failure and had an issue with obesity. I just don't want to end up the same way.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with VT in one month and the next month had Multiple Bilateral Pulmonary Embolisms. I was only 49. Plus had Lyme disease.
So all these major health issues just really frightened me. Not to mention I was a caregiver for my sister who had PPMS. She passed away last year. So I basically had been a caregiver for over 30 years of my life and had let my health issues go by the waistside.
My family told me to focus on my health now so that I can ne around longer.

Once again Thank You to All for your support and kind words.
I am also from the south., so that Scarlett O Hara reference is a good one

I’m sorry for all of your losses. I didn’t think I was nervous but on the morning of surgery I realized I was when I felt like I needed to pee every few minutes. I peed four times in an hour which seemed impossible since I hadn’t had anything to drink for the last 11 hours. I think I would have preferred crying to shuffling around in that awkward hospital gown and socks scurrying to the nearest bathroom

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
