Followup to shakes ?-naseus/lightheaded on pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

Where any of you naseus or light headed when you first started your pre-op diet? It's a big change in calories.

This afternoon, I am feeling light headed, naseus, can't focus on anything at work, tired, and very gassy (maybe from shakes made with milk?).

Today is first day of pre-op diet. I only had 2 shakes (breakfast & lunch)and Water today, so that's really only 400 calories. I finally went and got a banana because I felt like I was going to pass out at my desk and also I want to make sure I don't go thru a drive thru on the way home. (I can have 1 cup of fruit per day although they want me to avoid bananas-it was the only fruit available.). I'm still not feeling very well, and plan to leave work in an hour and lay down before going to my son's soccer game.

I know I'm probably going thru some carb and caffeine withdrawal also.

And I may need to eat my meal with Protein at lunch.< /p>

Anyway, I guess I'm looking to see if others had this experience, how you dealt with it, and if it got better after a few days once the body adjusted!

I don't want to screw up and do something stupid, like go thru a drive thru. I feel like if I can make it thru the first couple of days, I'll be okay.

Thanks

P.S. I may have lots of posts as I try and adjust and get ready for surgery in 2 weeks. And I'm sure after surgery, I will have even more posts.

Please put up with me!

Thanks. At least I know I'm not alone! I'm struggling to stick to pre-op diet. I did have to eat something Sunday (a little carbs) because I was feeling so sick and weak. But I still ate much less than normal. The next two weeks will be extremely long......

It does get better. Probably the caffeine you are missing. I did the pre=op for over 3 weeks just to get ready for the liquid diet. Make sure you are getting a lot of liquids and that will also help with the hunger....Good luck, I'm sure you will do fine Dave

Thanks Dave. They just called me (during lunch) to give me my actual surgery time. 7 am! I am glad that I'm early - that means he won't be tired after doing a lot of other surgeries!

Hopefully having a concrete time will help out too. I would hate to walk in there on Dec 28th and have them reject me because I couldn't stick to the diet.

Lots of Water , and no caffeine is what I will focus on the next few days. And of course staying away from those carbs.

Every day is a new day. I need to take it one day at a time, instead of thinking about all the days ahead of me. Sometimes, I may need to just take it one hour at a time.

Thats great news. The hardest thing for me to give up was Diet Dr. Pepper. I was a true addict, drinking sometimes 8-10 per day. Now I do the same with Crystal light..LOL

Take it one day at a time. Judging by your posts, I think you will do great. You seem very motivated to make the change and start on the Journey of a lifetime. Plus we are all here to give you any needed support...Dave

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
