Just got my confirmation call for my pre-surgical testing appt in Tuesday! Its becoming soooo real! Argh!! Also, I ate some a pickle slices. Do you guys think that’s terrible? Where do pickles fall on the list of things you can’t eat on the liquid diet? Anyone have any ideas?

Also for those of you who have had your surgeries already thank you for posting your stories and how it went. Its making it easier to wait on line for my turn to come!

Hey Kara which Vitamins are you purchasing? Due to getting the DS I’ll have to take 4 pills in the am and 4 at pm the brand is BariLife . Also another question what made you pick the sleeve as your revision choice?

Hi! I got the Barimelt ones. I’ve been taking them this entire month and so far so good. They’re not too bad, I think all of them have funky tastes based on what people are saying so I’m sticking with these unless my doc says otherwise. I chose the sleeve on the recommendation of my surgeon. I don’t suffer from acid reflux and he thinks I would do well with the sleeve since I did lose weight with my lap-band and proper eating, he thought the restriction was all I need to get back on track. I think he also said the weight loss difference was close with bypass and sleeve, so the less invasive sleeve would be enough

The only things I know to do are to sip on Swansons chicken (or beef) Bone Broth (9 grams protein) and/or to add unflavored Protein liquid or powder to your drinks/ broths. You can order protein liquid from Amazon and it will really boost your protein intake. Maybe incorporate some Pedialyte in your Water or no sugar Gatorade or Powerade to help with the dehydration. My dietitian told me Soups, broths, and Powereade all count towards my Fluid intake. I’m so sorry you’re having nausea. That is so miserable. If it gets really bad and uncontrollable then call your doctor for sure. I hope you feel better soon. 💕

I already have some sugarfree gatorade, but it makes my heartburn worse.

Today I tried some thin Tomato Soup, and it was pretty good and went down well. I'm doing better with liquids today, with the Soup I've managed to down almost a litre of liquids (33 oz) and the day is not over yet.

I know I'm not hitting either the liquid or the protein targets yet, but I tried a different Protein Shake, a banana/pineapple one that's not as thick and sickening as the one I had before. So at least I'm doing a little better.

I’m struggling to get in my Protein, all the sweet/thick Protein Shakes make me so nauseous… I’m drinking Bone Broth now, and it’s going down much easier! It’s only 9g Protein which isn’t much, but I figured something Is better than nothing 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hello, I got my surgery on August 2nd, and wow it’s been a crazy experience. I have not been able to keep much down. Pre op I was doing great with protein premier but now I’m not I throw it up. I tried Isopure and it taste so bad to me. I was given the okay to start on puréed foods but I can’t keep it down without having a feeling that I’m choking. Trying to keep Water down has been horrible I could barley get in 16 OZ. The worst part is that I’m about to hit my two week post op mark on Tuesday and I’m still not doing well. It’s really mentally draining.

Hey love, during my two week diet I had cucumbers with tajin seasoning which is a lime and Chile seasoning I also had a turkey sandwich I know I was not supposed to but I did. You should be 100% fine.

Went for my pre-op covid test today. I need to quarantine until Tuesday (surgery day).

We made hotel reservation to be closer to the hospital (it is an hour drive from the house).

Today and tomorrow still on the high Protein liquid diet… Monday is all clear liquid and I start my blood thinner shots.

I need to get my overnight bag packed pack yet, but I’m trying hard to not over pack (like I always do).

I’m super nervous and ready to be on the other side of surgery.

How is everyone else doing?

Hey love, my surgery was on August 2nd and I was also worried about my overnight bag the night before surgery I kept asking the nurse if I could bring my things with me or should I get it dropped off. They told me I was able to bring it with me but for some reason I decided not too. I was going to let my boyfriend drop it off for me. My surgery was scheduled for 10 Am and I honestly I didn’t go into surgery until like 2 or 3pm I believe. I woke up in the recovery room around 6pm and went into the actual room I was staying at around 7pm I was in so much pain due to the gas that I forgot that I didn’t have my phone with me but my bed was next to the window and I realized it was already dark outside meaning that it was night time. So my boyfriend was not able to drop off my bag. To be honest you don’t need much I’ll recommend a change of clothes to leave the hospital and some headphones. You are provided with everything else to be honest.

Thank you… the closer I get the more nervous I get. I know I’ll want to cry going back, but if I do - my poor husband will start to cry also and I don’t want that. Lol.

For my upper endoscopy I was brave until I went back - but when I was back in the waiting area myself (for like 2 minutes) before they rolled me into the operating room I started to tear up and I swear the whole place was consoling me telling me it will be the best nap of my life and I’ll be annoyed that they woke me up. Of course that made me laugh.

Thanks for the reminders…. I didn’t think about an eye mask, great idea! I just grabbed my Moxa packs (heating packs that don’t need plugged in - they last 12-24 hours), my lip balm and the long charger will go with me that day.

I’m sure everything will be fine… it’s just freaking me out being intubated and the length of the surgery. I know it will all go smoothly… I just am ready to be in recovery. I’m looking forward to coming home and having Tomato Soup and working to meet my Water goals. Lol.

I had the same experience during the endoscopy. I have extreme anxiety when I get put into an operating room. It really scares me. I let me team know this during my pre-op appointment and I told them again the morning of surgery when I was getting ready. My anxiety was spiking through the roof and I was starting to panic a bit. They gave me a xanax which seemed to help. I think I was waiting in the pre-op area for about 2 hours, getting ready and last minute testing done, meeting all the people who would be in the OR. I'm not sure if it was the xanax or I just blocked it out, but I don't remember being taken to the OR and I only vaguely remember moving onto the OR bed. The next thing I remember is being in my regular hospital room (I don't even remember the post-op room). I was really scared of going under anesthesia and the surgery itself, I was so happy it was over.

Oh ok just was curious. Also I plan on ordering my Vitamins today trying to find my best option but I’m leaning towards the BariMelts, because the idea of 8 pills is too much lol ! How are you feeling about your surgery? I have so many emotions going on .

Thank you for sharing that - I thought I was the only one.

I know everyone was so kind at my endoscopy, if I get overwhelmed I will make sure I tell the nurses on Tuesday.

I know I need to do this - for my liver, health and over all well being… and I want to do it, I’m just terrified of anesthesia and being intubated.

Hopefully I will glide through, not remember a thing and I’m sure I’ll breath a big sigh of relief when it’s over too. :)

Thank you! I appreciate the comforting words… they are a big help. They did ask me to bring a few specific things along (an inhaler and the medications they want me to take that morning) and suggested a case for my glasses … so I’m trying to make sure I get those things in.

I think I’m wearing a loose dress that day (bought it on clearance this week at Kohl’s) and I’ll wear that home to make that one less thing to pack.

I keep going back and forth about taking things with me or having my husband just bring them in as well.I have to check their visitor policy - to know if he has a limit of when he can come in. Our local hospitals don’t restrict support persons (family/significant others), so I’m not sure what this hospital does.

Yeah 8 pills feels like overkill. Lol. I say that even while I’m taking 6 because of my Vitamin B and D deficiencies. Lol.

I’m getting excited for my surgery. But also impatient. I want to be on the other side of this! Its funny but since its summer vacation I want the days to go slow, but since I know my surgery is right around the corner, I want it to hurry up and get here. Just some of the very mixed emotions running through me. How about you? How are you feeling? Are you ready?

lol what a catch 22! Ummmmm I’d say I’m excited about surgery I’m a revision so there’s a bit of been there done that . I just want to fast forward to when I’m recovering at home. I felt overwhelmed with how much new information is out/products since I had my first surgery in 2010 . I’m naturally a worry wart so I’m going through the motions of overly researching duodenal switch . I know it’s best for me due to my metabolism disorders. I read somewhere you could lose a pound a day ! Like that’s crazy to me lol !

(Also I’m making you my accountability partner lol there will be meltdowns FYI !)

Hello August buddies! I am scheduled on 8/16 😱. I have had thoughts of cancellation but my pancreas is no longer functioning correctly so I realize this is a lifesaving procedure for me. My doctor told me 100 lbs needs to get off of me ASAP. I can’t remember how 140 felt, lol!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
