Is anyone else afraid they will cheat and not be able to lose weight? Not trying to be negative, but that is my biggest fear that I will go thru with surgery and then not lose weight. I just know how I have been with diets in the past so I keep thinking about what if I fail at this too.

You are not alone! I fear that tremendously. I am having revision surgery, which means I’ve been here before (or something like this) and I lost over 130 lbs from my highest weight and have gained a ton of it back. Now my gain was pretty much due to the pandemic/getting COVID but I gained it none-the-less. I will say I personally am preparing for this surgery in a way I never could the first time around. These many resources did not exist when I got my lapband. But I joined this app/group for support and if we’re not supporting each other even through our worries and fears how supportive are we really being? So know you’re not alone or being overly negative, you can’t work through your fears if you don’t acknowledge them! And, you can make this work, it’s possible. And I believe it will happen for me, so there’s no reason for you to not believe it will happen for you. There’s nothing particularly special about those who succeed beyond their determination to use their tool and make themselves succeed.

Absolutely this has crossed my mind, and I'm sure others. Take it one day at a time. You're not on a diet, you're making decisions that will change your life for the better. It's not one day at a time, it's one meal at a time. There are always healthier options. It's ok to have foods that may not be so "good" for you but to make sure it's not a consecutive thing that is happening more often than choosing the better options. I'm terrible about my mind always going to the negative but I've slowly started to learn that I have to think positive if I want positive changes. You got this, keep your head up, and know you have an entire community here to lean on when you need it.

So the PreDigested Liquid Protein came in today and it is awesome! 2Tbsp gives you 20 grams of Protein that will be fully absorbed! I got the grape to try out and now I'm gonna order the cherry. On the days where getting all that Water down might not be possible, at least I know I can get 20 grams of protein down from 8 ounces of water!!

Hey @karakent! I’m not an august person - I’m having my surgery this coming Wednesday - but I saw in your post you are band to sleeve and I am too, I don’t find too many folks in revision forums having this so wanted to say hello! I’ll be more than happy to share with you my experience of it once it happens! Cay

I was scheduled for Sept 6th, but just got rescheduled to August 26th! I had about 210 lbs to lose, and have already lost about 40, so hoping by the time surgery comes I might only have 150 or so to go. Getting pretty excited, nervous and more excited.

I don't think it is a matter of cheating, but truly a state of mind and understanding moderation. Having a bite or two is very different than having the whole thing. I have been actively working on changing my eating habits for months to get out of that cheating mindset. It has helped me tremendously. You know you aren't consuming sugar when your chewable Multi-Vitamin is too sweet! LOL But I am sooo determined to not undermine all my progress that I can't even allow myself to even THINK about cheating. I guess it is easier for me to be an all or nothing type of point of view, but I also know that is not sustainable and that is where I'm learning to "allow" myself that flexibility for moderation. You can fail at this if you don't change your eating habits. Get close with your nutritionist and look inside yourself as to what are your emotional eating triggers. I used to make everything about food. If we were happy and celebrating, if I was stressed or upset, if I was bored... whole vacations were planned around food. Now it is becoming less and less to me and more of a necessity and it frees me up to do so many more fun things. :)

My husband recently had a partial foot amputation due to diabetes so we are both following a diabetic plan that reduces carbs and increases Protein. Just being very mindful of what we are eating and how it affects his blood sugar. I figured it would be good to get into the habit of eating in a more healthy way now, rather than after the surgery. I'm not exercising right now. I'd love to, but hubby is still non-weight bearing and on a pic line so most of my time when I'm not at work is taken up with taking care of him. Hoping to get the go-ahead for weight-bearing tomorrow as well as ending his IV antibiotics, so I'm hoping to start getting some walking in.

Hey August Buddies! I wanted to share my results so far in starting my mock trial liquid diet to see how well it goes for me. Basically, to test to make sure I can hit all my macros and Protein, I don't put it in my mouth if it does not have some version of protein in it. So far I have felt very satisfied and not felt too hungry. If I do get hungry, then I drink more Water with the liquid Protein and it satisfies me.

What my days are consisting of:

Breakfast
1 cup of coffee with 1 Tbsp of cream and 1 teaspoon of Skinny mix and 1 scoop of college protein
Take all my supplements and vitamins
Water with Electrolytes
Oikos triple zero yogurt watered down
Organic Plum Stage 1 Babyfood (OMG - soooo good!)

Lunch
2-ounce puck of strained Bear Creek Cheddar Broccoli Soup with 2 TBSP of grass-fed whey protein ( I also made chicken noodle soup and potato soup pucks so I have a variety)
1 Keto Chow Protein Shake with 1 cup Almond Milk
Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes

Snack
1 Premiere Protein chocolate Peanut Butter Shake
Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes

Dinner
1 complete SF Jello box with Liquid Protein
Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes

My program may be completely different from yours, but I wanted to share what is so far working for me. I'm down 4 pounds since Sunday and have not been hungry and very satisfied. Average daily calories 850, Avg protein 120 grams, average net carbs 58 (primarily from yogurt and Fiber carbs) I feel really good that my protein levels increased to over 50% when I implemented the liquid protein. So easy to consume with your water!

Lots of Love to My August Buddies!! ❤️

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
