So my bariatric doctor is trying to convince me to get the sleeve instead of the Bypass, which I thought would be better for me being that I have GERD & a hiatal hernia. He says he can fix my hiatal hernia and after he fixes it, I would be fine and won’t develop another hernia. Now I’m confused and not sure which surgery would be the best for me. Has anyone who’s had the sleeve ever developed a second hiatal hernia after it was originally fixed during a sleeve surgery?.

Sleevedk—-Hello…I know your post is from 3 years ago…but I’m wondering how you are since your Gastric Bypass? I hope you’re doing well. I had a Gastric Sleve in 2017 and now in 2025 I have an extremely large Hiatal Hernia and saw a surgeon in NYC at Lenox Hill Hospital and gave Gastric Bypass scheduled in Oct 2025….I am a nervous wreck about the operation and recovery. I have confidence in my Doctor but I’m 68 years old and in good health but still very scared. Just wondering how you are years later after your surgery. Thanks. Andrea

There are so many people on here thinking that a bypass is the way to go to avoid a hiatus hernia/ acid reflux. Well, I would just like to give my own experience. I had a mini gastric bypass 8 years ago. I regret having it. I regained most of the weight, and straight after the surgery, I immediately had problems with acid reflux. I was then told I had a hiatus herniated. I never had either of these before surgery. My acid reflux has got worse, and I am now on vitamins for life. I regret this surgery.
