Mine is confirmed for October 27, 2021 for a duodenal switch, I had a gastric sleeve back in October 24 2018. Went from 360 to 215. I had a good run with it but ended up in the icu for 18 days due to COVID and nearly dying and became limited in mobility. I had such bad complications and I still do but more manageable. My body aches are so bad than when I was overweight. My Dr.’s don’t want to do another sleeve because the likelihood of gaining the weight back is greater again, whereas the duodenal switch is more effective, luckily my gastric doctor handles both and is excellent! I can’t wait, just nervous about the Vitamin deficiency though 😰 good luck to you all!

so sorry about all the struggles with covid - that is very scary and I have family members that are dealing with the after effects of that too. I am glad to hear you are better and healing. I am too very worried about Vitamin deficiency. I am currently anemic and that is a concern now so I am going into this terrified it will be an even greater problem not to mention the concerns with the anesthesia. Good luck on your surgery!

Hi Folks!

Today I am 5 days post op (Sleeve on 10/1). I was discharged Sunday night, reluctantly, but discharged I was. Fluid intake was and still has been difficult. While my abdominal area heals and my stomach inflammation goes down, introducing liquid is painful. When I say it’s a JOB to meet the 60g Protein/64oz Fluids goal I’m not lyin! Where’s my check!?!? Lol

The gas has finally started moving and thank the lord I managed a poop 🤷🏽‍♀️ Today. Everyday gets a little easier. The more I get up and move the more I see improvements. I don’t have a ton of energy yet, but I know it’ll come.

Those prepping or you fortunate ones with very little prep, keep your head in the game. Nerves are normal and this is about taking care of YOU. Sure, there will be moments when you wonder “what in the **** did I do!?!”, but it’s a scattered thought and won’t stick around.

I was a nervous comedian down to the last drop of happy juice that knocked me out. I had the entire OR Prep floor rolling. My husband kept telling me to shut up because me on drugs is NSFW. 😂😂😂

Anyway … good luck. And quick question. Anyone else find it easier to sleep sitting up post op? If so, how long did it last?

Picture of 3 of my 4 pups at my side since I got home.

I am in the same boat with returning to work. My surgeon only gives two weeks off. My employer requires 100% fit for duty. I worry about that.

Two weeks!?! For bypass? Wow. I had the sleeve and work a high stress job in mental health and had to beg to go back in two weeks. My surgeon requires 4-6 weeks off.

I just got out of surgery for bypass and am feeling pretty good! I have no doubt the pain meds are helping though.
My surgeon warned me that the top wound hurts the most and she wasn’t kidding! I honestly can’t even feel the other ones!
Last year I had an ovary out laparoscopically and bc these wounds are higher on the abdomen I’m way more mobile so far. I’ve already walked to the bathroom, and that took me prob half a day w the other surgery.
So far so good!

Mine is the 12th. I too am nervous and have doubts in the back of my mind. However, I know is the best option for me. Hey, does anyone find almost everything on the pre-op liquid diet to be pretty gross? I like only a small amount of the allowable foods. Probably because of a sugar addiction and the taste of the artificial sweetener is really yucky.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
