I take a generic ritalin but i had to be switched from extended release to immediate release so now i take 3 20mgs a day. Most extended release medications dont work on me.

I had my gastric bypass in 2005.

Not sure if any of this info helps

@Shagami at 1st read Thought your nick was Shinigami. Wow 😮 that was a long time ago and indeed your information does help and thank you for sharing. Can you share more about your life changes and how have you benefited long term from your RnY surgery.

8 weeks out and I am mentally stable so far. Not sure I'm thrilled about having done the surgery, since it's now really unpleasant to eat and I'm hungry all the time. But the weight loss is very good - down 25lbs since surgery.

I had sleeve, none of my meds are extended release, but I take a lot of meds because I have bipolar and anxiety. The only med I've changed is that I'm stopping the topamax which I took for Migraines because I haven't had any migraines since surgery.

I would highly recommend working with a psychopharmacologist if you take a lot of psych meds and are thinking about WLS. There's a lot to consider.

@lizonaplane congratulations on ur weight loss, extended release medication would be a problem for people like me that did the bypass because of the anatomical changes down. You should not have any issues. I would still suggest to speak with your surgeon.

Topiramate (long, long pre-surgery) made me absolutely ravenous, which is stupid because it was prescribed as part of a weight loss regimen. As soon as I stopped it, the hunger went away.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
