@Shrink&Grow I heard nothing from my surgeon's office for weeks, then a flurry of activity this week. I emailed them a couple of times while I was waiting, but it was probably an annoyance to them. Didn't get much of a response except for "we're working on your paperwork." :)

Mine is June 30th. I got blessed to have this on my late mamas bday. 😃 I’m scared as heck but what keeps me going to not back out is nothing else has worked for me and I don’t wanna die or be miserable with anymore complications I put on myself. Besides I’m really tired of this comfortable life style I’ve been in and all it’s done is made me stay depressed and unhealthy. Cheers and blessings to all of you for your courageous journey. Plz pray for me as I will all of you. So glad I found this support app!!

June 9th surgery date, very excited! A question I have - many of you are on liquid diets for weeks leading up to your surgery. My surgeon's only dietary request is Clear Liquids for only the 24 hours before the surgery. Why is everyone on liquid diet so long? Should I be worried if I'm not?

My surgery is June 15th. The reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver which they have to lift during the surgery. Maybe because your BMI is so low, you don't have to.

I agree with @Drinkwine28. Every surgeon is different, but I think they require less time for lower BMI patients.

Good Luck! Looking forward to having some people going through this with me!

Question: I start my liquid meals June 1. Can I add flavorless Protein Powder to sugar free drinks/soup?

Hi Everyone,

June 15th is my day. Very excited but ANXIOUS! Look forward to seeing how all of in June do and appreciate being able to have others to share with! ❤️

I am scheduled for June 15th also in GA. I just wish it was tomorrow so I can get started. I’ve been having mini food funerals lately and am just ready to go. Mix of excited, anxious and lots of ready. Good luck as you prepare and I am looking forward to positive changes with this tool.

Other than a phone call 6 weeks ago to tell me my date was June 12th, I've heard nothing from the hospital since (except when I called back to ask how long my LRD should be). I am in UK and paying privately, have no idea when my pre-op is, what my particular surgeon recommends for LRD, feel really scared and this isn't helping. Feel like I can't plan for what I need - and I like to plan!

Trying to not let the anxiety eat me alive haha... ha.. 😱

Took some 'before' photos yesterday... That was a good motivation, to remind me I'm making the right decision!!

Good Morning from Georgia!

Definitely call your surgery Dr. and Team. Have them email you your plan for Pre-op bloodwork, an outline of your Pre/post diet example, suggested food tools (blender, measuring spoons/cups, food scale, kids utensils, plates, bowls, etc... Also Vitamin suggestions.

Bottom line you are paying them for a service. If you feel they are not meeting your needs, take your business to another place.

Best of luck and congratulations on choosing to take care of you.

I started drafting an email yesterday and thought - hang on if they take the time to reply to me, then I'll just be putting them further behind! Today I am back feeling REALLY EXCITED!

Aw thank you - I am going to wait until the weekend and if I still haven't heard it's time to chase..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
