How is everyone doing with their pre-op diets? Mine is honestly much better than I anticipated although I am one of the lucky ones that is not restricted to only liquid. I'm definitely having some head hunger and cravings but I'm not actually hungry most of the time.

Question for the ladies: anyone else due for their time of month around surgery? I'm praying mine comes soon and is done by the time I go in. I don't want to have to be dealing with that on top of everything else.

Are you one the pill? I was supposed to be on mine the day after surgery but called gyno and he said okay to skip the placebo pills to hold it off for a few weeks.

I start my 4 Protein shakes/4, 1 cup servings of non starchy veggies diet on Saturday. And yes, TOM should be paying me a visit too. With any luck he'll come on time and be gone before the 19th. LOL Glad things are going well for you!

An advantage to being in my 60’s! Haha. Doing good with my pre op diet. First few days were rough but Im at day 6, some hunger but mostly Im learning to push past the cravings. Im having the realization that food is no longer for pleasure but for fuel to survive. Doing better with my Protein Shakes since I found Isopure. Good luck to those having surgery this week!

Hi all! I have a tentative day for May 18. I began my pre op liquid diet today. I feel like today might be the hardest. I am a little worried. I gained about 10lbs from my initial appointment. No one has said anything about it yet, but just worried that they might push my date back if I haven’t showed signs of losing any weight. Any recommendations on purée machines?
wishing all my beauties luck on our journey ❤️

I, too am in my 60's and periods are a thing of the past. I suspect though that surgical teams deal with that all the time, and you will be up and down to the bathroom a lot after surgery, so it won't be as much of an issue as you may think.

Today is day 7 of my pre-op and I'm doing great. I have fleeting thoughts of foods that aren't allowed, but honestly if I drink a Protein Shake every few hours, with lots of water/tea/broth in between, I'm golden. I gardened yesterday and noticed I don't have as much stamina, and I attribute that to the low calorie diet. I'm also not yet taking the bariatric Vitamins I ordered, and probably should be as they contain more Iron and folic acid and such than what I usually take. Surgery is a week from tomorrow!

It is so great having all of you May surgery folks to chat with. Keep the faith all. It is so worth it!

I am but it's the mini pill so there is no placebo week to skip 😫 . For now I'll just continue to hope it comes and goes before the 12th. I did ask about it during my pre-op call and they basically just said you're not allowed to wear a tampon during surgery so they would provide the mesh underwear like you get after giving birth and a pad. So it's honestly not the worst thing, just not my preference.

Well ideally like you said it will come and go but if not, hopefully if you do have it it won’t be too big of a deal because like others said you will be up and down for the bathroom a lot anyways plus you are supposed to walk a lot as well. I was up and around the room the first night pretty easily you just have to drag your new friend around with you who I named Charlie (the iv) but that becomes second nature.

5 days of pre-op diet down, 16 to go!!

Same! How are you doing with it? Are you all liquid or are you able to eat some things? I’m all liquid and struggling. Hoping that I get over the hump to where it gets easier.

Able to eat some things. All liquid sounds so hard!! I had been reading it gets better after day 3 and maybe it's in my head but it feels true in my case! Good luck to you ❤️

I am only on day 2 of my liquid pre-op. No solids at all for me. But I can have 3-5 Protein Shakes, V8 and of course sugar free liquids. These Premier Protein shakes are MUCH better than I anticipated! We'll see how I feel about that by the end of the week 😐

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
