I had my yearly pulmonologist appt. the other day. I've been seeing him for about 10 years, since I got diagnosed with asthma. I had suspected I had it for a long time before that, but when I got up to almost 400 pounds it got a lot worse. That year I was sick 10 months out of the year. It was awful.
Well, at this appointment the other day he said my lung function is better than normal for a woman my age (51). Like, WAY better than normal, and he doesn't need to see me anymore unless I have a problem. He also took me off my controlling inhaler with the long acting brochodilator in it and put me on a regular one that is just a steroid. I had originally had to go on the one with the brochodilator because we couldn't get my asthma under control with just a steroid.
Actually, I love this doctor and he's the best doctor I've ever had so I will miss him, but I'm so happy. I NEVER knew the impact my weight was having on my ashtma until I lost the weight. I just can't believe how much better I feel. I can't believe after struggling to get it under control for a long time, now it's like I don't even have asthma. It's amazing!

That is amazing! I'm glad you are feeling better now and don't need your meds anymore.

I have some, first I wanted to post a before and after.

From a 4x/3x to a L/M
I cant believe I don't need plus sizes anymore. Honestly it's so weird to me still that I can find something in most stores now that work with my body. I've been plus sized for the past 12 years and when I was a kid (girls plus). I know it's not a weird NSV but it's weird to me because I've been plus sized my whole life.

Another NSV, I was able to hike in bad shoes without getting out of breath or falling. Pic from the hike.

Another NSV. I am a musician. I had a show last night and I was scared to step up on stage because there was no step. Old me would have had a lot of trouble and felt embarrassed. I got up with my instrument in hand and had no issues at all. I am still scared though to do things like that because I'm not used to my new body. I hope I'll become more comfortable soon. Pic of stage!

I have been measuring myself and I never seem to see the tape go down at all. Seems like my measurement stays the same. Well today, I tried on some new jeans that I haven't been able to fit into just yet and today they zipped right up. I'm so happy.

Now I wish I could learn to take good body selfies. Well that's next on the agenda. LOL

When I was at my highest weight, it felt like my body was just running out of places to put more fat and I started getting pads of fat in weird places.

Today I noticed that my "buffalo hump" (fat pad between my shoulder blades) is gone and my back is a more normal shape. And also my "hotdog bun" (rolls of fat at the nape of my neck) is basically gone. The pad on my shin just below my kneecap is almost gone.

I'm still fat as of now, but just in the usual places.

Congratulations and well done! I started buying jeans that are 4 - 6 size smaller and keep on trying them on to see if they fit haha. To lazy to use a measuring tape. I have bought new khaki's from my favorite brand in size 32" and can't wait to be able to wear them. I'm now wearing size 36".

That is awesome! I was also fatter around the waist and had big thighs to match. Not anymore now. I've a balanced body shape now but still need to lose some more weight.

I have a TMI "negative victory." I realize that's an oxymoron, but I'm serious.

Sex hurts.

My husband is rather well endowed and since I'm losing some butt fat, he is bottoming out and it KILLS. Gonna have to start doing squats to build my back end up with muscle instead of fat, so it restricts his motion again ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Told him just to shave an inch off and we'll be fine ... he didn't appreciate that. ๐Ÿคฃ

Hubby picked me up yesterday without any trouble and then proceeded to tell me that I need to be more careful not to be obducted. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„ He is legit scared someone is going to just pick me up and steal me. I was shocked because truthfully I have never been concerned someone would steal me, ever. But now the hubby is seriously worried about it, guess it's time for a self defense class ๐Ÿคฃ. His worry melts my heart and makes me smile lol.

OK, this starts with a joke I heard once a very long time ago, from a Reader's Digest, I think.

One lady (on scale) to another: I'm trying to get down to what I never thought I'd be over!

I just did. 132 lbs. YAY me!!

I realized my most recent NSV while out shopping for new pants. To give a little back story, I have always been a 30" length in pants, so in the past as my weight has fluctuated so has my pant sizes from 38x30 to 40x30, then to 42x30. Well I'm happy to report that as of today I am a 30x30 (or so I thought!!). It seems that I have actually grown taller! Well, kinda.... Since I now wear my pants at my waist aka at my bellybutton and not under my belly, I'm really a 32 length!!! It blew my mind to find out I'm taller than what my pants led me to believe ๐Ÿคฃ.

Seriously though, it's a wonderful feeling to be in clothing sizes I never dreamed I would be able to fit in.

I CANNOT believe that I stand here in a size 10 jeans, Iโ€™m not sure I EVER even THOUGHT I would wear that size jeans! Talk about a NSV!! ( down from a 24/26 Jean)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas.ย I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.ย ย I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. ๐Ÿ’—

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.ย ย And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
