Anyone November 2020

Tomorrow is my Covid test and start of liquid diet. I only have a 2 day Clear Liquids and then surgery early Wednesday morning. Enjoyed a home made Thai curry with extra coconut cream for my “last meal”. Taking a moment to enjoy the process and prepare for big changes.

After surgery will be a breeze. Probably uncomfortable for a day or two and then you will adapt to your new stomach. Plus you’ll get more choices for liquids after surgery. The two weeks of Protein Drinks and chicken broth was the worst!

How was the Protein Shake only liquid diet for people? My surgery is 12/02/20 (if COVID doesn't cancel it). I started my liquid diet at lunch today, any tips or hurdles that I need to get over? How much weight did you lose during this 2 week process?

The first 3 days kinda suck, but after that you sort of get your groove. Once my body went into ketosis I had to pee every hour, day and night. It’s a tough diet but stick with it. Variety is a big thing...I learned that I hate Bone Broth, I can tolerate chicken broth, too much sugar free Jello is a laxative, and proteinh20 is pretty good. Everything has a sweet taste so I craved savory which is tough to find. Someone said there is a chicken flavored Protein Powder. Good luck. You’ve got this. Check in when you start feeling like you want to bang your head. We’re here. 😊

TatiannaL....I just started my 2 week Liquid Protein diet yesterday and I went to GNC to get the details on whats best. They have "Prolific Isolate" which is sugar free and meets all of the criteria for what is needed for the shakes. It's a little spendy, $60 for 2.5 lbs. But, it mixes great and the taste is the best I've traied in my limited times taking Protein Shakes. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the insight! The typical walk by the pantry happens every night at about 8:00, so last night I went with some sweet flavored water and chicken broth. This morning I am filling up on coffee and Protein shakes!

Pain sucked the first two days and then it was minimal. I’m a week out, no pain meds. You’ll do great!

Is everyone okay with telling people? I havent told anyone what type of surgery I’m having. I feel it’s none of anyone’s business and I don’t want the gossip.

I told my girlfriend who had the surgery 2 years ago, my husband, and my two young adult kids. No one else--not my mom or MIL, not my business partner, siblings, other girlfriends, etc. I just didn't want "lay-people" to criticize my choice, and question my research. It was a long mental (and financial) journey and I just figured I didn't need naysayers, or jealously to get in my way. I know what's best for me and I only wanted absolute understanding, support, and not a lot of FAQs from who I told.

I'm on day 2 of my pre-op diet (surgery on Nov 30th). I opted to just make my own Protein Shakes since we drink smoothies daily around here. I just mix the Protein powder with soy milk (oat milk wasn't on my list 😞) and drink it down (minus the fruit). In the past, when I wanted help with my appetite, I drank psyllium with grapefruit juice to fill me up (and it helps with poop as it's fiber). I currently emailed my dr. to see if I could continue to do so.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
