Bucky0126 got a reaction from pdsuttles36 in December 2020 Surgery UpdatesHey December surgery people! Our group hasn't posted much lately, I'm hoping it's because of all the success and lifestyle changes. I've made a few friends and one that I text with regularly that we continue to push each other and to hold ourselves accountable. My story has been met with highs, lows, weight loss walls and amazing success. I'm -122.2 lbs since I started the journey 1/1/20 and -73.1 lbs since surgery 12/2/20. My weight loss has certainly slowed in the recent month or 2, but overall it's trending in the right direction. I'm still not able to eat solid red meat (steak) and regular milk without severe stomach aches, but overall the experience has been life changing and worth every second of effort I've made. Does anyone else have some stories to share from our surgery month of December 2020?

Bucky0126 reacted to David_L in December 2020 Surgery UpdatesI'm right behind you!! I can't believe it's already been 6 months since we did this. Had you asked me a couple years ago if I could ever feel this good, I would call you a liar. I recall very clearly how much it hurt just to get out of bed. I also recall having to be hospitalized twice after the procedure and wondering if I made a mistake. Those "bumps" are all part of the process. I hope to come back to this forum and keep in touch with folks even a year from now to share our success stories.

Bucky0126 reacted to Maisey in December 2020 Surgery UpdatesI had RNY 12/14/2020. I am down 130 from my HW and 80 since surgery.
I am off all diabetes meds and had an A1C a month ago of 5.6. I see the endocrinologist in 2 weeks. My Type 2 was considered well-controlled so I only saw him twice per year. I am now hoping for even less frequent visits.
My weight loss seems to go in spurts. I drop a few pounds, stay stable and then drop a few more. I am trying to practice all good habits in terms of portion size, exercise and vitamins to keep me in this for the long haul.
I feel good and am happy in my decision. Despite still having more weight to lose, I haven't weighed this little in many years. I do have some issues with foam vomiting on occasion. It is not dependent upon what I eat. It is all about how fast I eat and how well I chew. I've not found specific foods that don't agree with me. I'm learning to navigate the world of eating post surgery while dining out and being part of social activities.

Bucky0126 reacted to bonnie51 in December 2020 Surgery UpdatesYou look fabulous. Keep it up! I had a sleeve to RNY for severe GERD. I am happy to say the reflux is 100% improved. I started at 206 and am at 175. My goal would be 165 since I am 70 years old and can't get too gaunt.
I have had only one episode of vomitting and that was my fault. I can eat anything and do. I keep my portions in check and don't overindulge. I do enjoy an adult beverage couple times a week. Overall I am very pleased with my progress.
I do need to get my #ss in gear and start getting more exercise. Seems like spring had finally hit Iowa so getting out more. Bought new walking shoes and going to get going any day now.
Thank you for starting this thread and I hope we hear from others.

Bucky0126 got a reaction from David_L in December 2020Just by putting this post out there, you're acknowledging some internal struggles and by not keeping it a secret to yourself, you're making YOU more accountable! Best of luck, we are all pulling for you and all the other candidates as you're right, the brain didn't get the surgery, our stomachs did.

Bucky0126 got a reaction from Neensyb in December 2020I think completely normal. I hit a stall and in looking back, I wasn't eating much, but also wasn't eating the right foods. I think it's important to stick to the meal plan and vary slightly...which I wasn't doing as I wanted to see how my stomach reacted. Stick with it! The week after my 8 day stall, I lost 9 lbs...it'll happen.

Bucky0126 got a reaction from Mrb1807 in Barely loseingWhile I didn't have that in week 2, I had it in week 3 or 4 where I hit a wall. Are you still on liquid diet? What I did was took the cup off the top of cough medicine and used that as my drinking measure. I would drink water from that for 2 weeks to make sure I wasn't over or under drinking. At this point you probably aren't eating yet, so I relied on "good" protein shake powder from GNC to limit calories and raise protein. What about a daily walk around the block? I live in MN so it wasn't appealing to me, but I powered through it. Just something different to throw the body a curveball. That's what worked for me, but everyone is different.
Keep in mind there are days when I think I am going to drop 1-2 lbs and step on the scale and I gained 1-2 lbs from last weigh in. It can be frustrating, but you have to stay the course. Have you talked to your doctor or dietician? Have you tried a food log? Just my $.02 worth.
Good luck!

I guess I'm weird. I proudly say how much I've lost.
In my first year, the only thing I kept close to my chest is the fact that I've had surgery. When I had surgery, I kept it mostly to myself, only telling a handful of people in my close circle. But, my co-workers obviously noticed that I was losing weight. They sometimes asked me how I was doing it or how much I'd lost. If they asked me how, I could honestly say that I was exercising and watching what I ate (high protein/low carb/etc). And if they asked me how much I'd lost, I was proud and told them! Every single one of them was happy and complimentary.
Now, after almost 3 years, I really don't have much reservation in admitting I had surgery. Not that many people ask.

Bucky0126 got a reaction from UGAPRRTHD in December 2020You had surgery 3 days before me, I'm curious if you're experiencing the same thigs I am? I'm able to pass gas controllably which is nice to ease the gas pain. My incisions aren't an issue, but when I stand after sitting in same spot, I'm a little sore. I wear the belly brace to bed, seems to have helped with my side sleeping. I'm -18 lbs in almost 2 weeks, but this morning I'm the same weight as yesterday. I have tried adding sugar free pudding this week and strained cream of mushroom soup (stomach was surprised to feel that and gurgled a little). Other than that, it's water, protein shakes and jello for me. Looking forward to soft foods as early as next week.

Bucky0126 got a reaction from Kass in December 2020Surgery was a success for the gastric sleeve on Wednesday 12/2. I stayed one night in the hospital to treat the pain and discomfort with IV fed pain meds, which worked miracles. I was discharged yesterday after being able to tolerate water and pass gas (you'll get sick of them all asking if you passed gas, but it's important). So at home and dealing with stomach soreness, sipping water every 30 minutes as instructed and taking pain meds. Sleep was great in my own bed, just in the stage of feeling full of gas and the stomach rumbling almost non-stop, which is all to be expected. The staff took great care of me and I have ZERO regrets and the process was great! If you are getting closer to your date or have any pre-op diet or actually surgery process questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck of you are right behind me in your process, ease your mind and let the doctors and nurses take total care of you!
