December Exercise Challenge

Recommended Posts

Good morning!

Still traveling, but the hotel I am staying at happens to have a very deluxe fitness center (a refreshing surprise), so I got an excellent, not-too-boring, workout in this morning.

LadyBugRed congrats on your successful fill :clap2::clap2::clap2:!

Welcome to the wonderful world of restriction -- it's great isn't it?

Have a great day day everyone!

So I didn't get my workout in last night like I hoped, but when I got home, my boyfried was in a foul mood, started cooking dinner and then forgot about the chicken in the oven and it burned. We spent the rest of the evening trying to clear the house of smoke. Fortunately with some beer for him we were able to laugh about it and it actually put him in a better mood.

I did get my exercise tonight, but there is a funny story to go with it. I laughed really hard. I just got done doing my workout routine with the exercise ball and weights. I was doing push ups and I go until my arms just won't lift me any further. Just as they gave out and I kind of ungracefully rolled off the ball, my boyfriend turned around to look at the tv and there I was sprawled out all over the floor. He said "when you claimed to be a beached whale in the past, I didn't think that you ever looked like one, but seeing you laying there all sweaty and flopped over, I think I finally see it." He was just kidding of course but I told him that I was going to have to post that he called me a beached whale. Then he said "well, more like a beached guppy, there is just not enough blubber left on ya." How sweet. I will take it as a compliment.

Chat with you tomorrow, you guys are all doing great. Dave, sorry to hear about your dad, but you are one dedicated guy!

Good morning,

I am just SO impressed with how dedicated everybody in our group is to their exercise regime -- and the wonderful thing is that the numbers are reflecting all of your hard work. High fives all around!!!! You guys inspire me and really keep me motivated -- I love this group!

Dave, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that he is on the road to recovery, and will be out of the hospital soon.

Salsa, that is a very funny story!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Becky and Frangipani, Thanks. If they could figure what is causing him pain in his shoulder area, we should start on the recovery road. Now they are saying nerve problems. Its a wait and see thing. Congrats to all who have started the December Challenge

Frangi, I'm impressed with this group too. I think we'll be some of the first Crazy Ates to be posting on the "life at or near goal thread". I sure hope so!

I walked for 45 minutes today.

Happy Holidays!

Well, better late than never. And believe me, never would have been easier. It's not easy to come back when you feel like you've let people down. I'm sorry. Thank you, Frangipani for keeping things going. You are all inspiring!

I've been struggling with my band and exercise lately. I knew it would be a hurdle-- that's why I signed up to do the exercise challenges. I was hoping it would be easier this time around.

I have 10 exercise days scheduled this month, most of which are walking. I got 1 down. I can do this!

Kathy,

You are not letting any of us down. You really should check in here as often as you can though, because everyone here is great and we really do support people through the tough times. I am not sure I would have been as successful as I have been if it wasn't for the wonderful people here. Let us know what you need and we will do it. If you need some one to give ya tough love I am here to do that (Officially trained as a teacher, so you will be getting certified help!) or if you need gentle, calming help, there are many people here to do that too, and even I can do that. We really do want to help!!!!!! Besides if I am helping others I don't feel as bad that my stinking scale hasn't moved in the last week and a half. It is as good for us as it will be for you. Hang in there and have you contacted Dr. Neal's office to see if there is something they can do to help. We both know how wonderful they are. I am going back on the 21st to get my refill. I had to be completely unfilled about a month ago because my teeth forgot their job was to chew. See we all make mistakes, but the next day is new and we start again.

Keep in touch!

Hi Band Chick! Glad you checked in. I've been thinking about you. I'm sorry you're struggling but you've come to the right place. Yes, you can do this. Just keep checking in here and tell us what challenges you're having. We will certainly try to help. Have you had a fill lately? Obviously the lapband is not the quick, effortless, magic that so many unbanded people think it is. It is still hard work and the mental issues still loom large. Coming here everyday and feeling some accountability to all the others who are working so hard is helping me. Good luck, Becky

I walked for 45 minutes this morning.

Got in my workout last night and the scale finally moved this morning. That thing has been so stubborn lately, but finally down a pound. Don't know if it will last, but that will be a problem on a different day. Today, I am celebrating. :whoo:

I just got cleared from my port revision to start exercising... Hopefully i will be able to get some of this weight off. Since being banded in August I have only lost a small fraction of the weight I wanted to by now. 2 days at the gym down though.

Thank you for your support!

One more exercise day down! 20 minute walk with my daughter tonight.

I asked for a membership to Curves for Christmas. I think that will help. I'm also reading The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients. My WLS councilor says I'm right on track and losing, but I know I could be doing a lot better-- and I want to!

As I get more restriction I'm more limited on what I can eat. I'm getting bored with the same ol' same ol'. What are some of your favorites? I'd love to find something new.

Hi Everyone,

Band Chick, Welcome Back! As Texas Becky said we are all here to help each other out -- so keep checking in with us and we will keep each other going during the challenging times. We all do have those times, that's for sure.

Well, I had my third fill appointment. The Dr. says that everything looks good, and that I seem to be holding my fills well at this point, so this time he added just the tiniest amount (.2cc).

It seems as if I won't need to be getting any more fills for a while, so now it is time to devote my full focus to my workouts -- and Amigos I am on a mission. I am pleased with my weight loss so far, but the time has come to kick this operation into high gear!

Today was Day 1 of the new mission. I doubled the duration of my cardio workout as well as the intensity (added three more steep hills to my route), and this week I will be headed back to the gym for weight lifting workouts.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
