Surgery without anesthesia

Recommended Posts

I am strongly considering having my surgical procedure done without anesthetic. Since cleaning myself up, I've been very cautious about taking any sort of drug or using any substance that alters my perception.

I have a high tolerance for pain and I'm refusing all pain medication. I made the same choice a couple years back when they had to remove a foreign object from my rectum. Lots of pain at first, but after about 30 minutes it was tolerable.

Has anyone else done this?

Is it even an option to do such a surgery without anesthesia?

No disrespect but this is nothing like any surgery you have had. During surgery no anesthesia I'm sure is not an option. Post no pain meds I'm sure can be and it's great you want to be "clean" however this is no joke....

I agree. I'd see about going without pain meds post op but you definitely will want anesthesia during the procedure

I'm exploring all options. My friends are holding a special event this weekend to help me prepare. They claim its 100% effective if somewhat out of the mainstream. Some kind of consecration by the Luciferic Knights of Dusk. They swear to me it doesn't involve pagan sacrifice or strange rituals, but I have my doubts.

If this is something you want to consider, I would start talking to your physician. This may not be something they would even consider with lots of liability. Or you might find someone. I don't know. I would never chose to do a major surgery without anesthesia. Personally, I think the problem isn't so much the anesthesia... but the pain medicine after surgery. If you want to go without narcotics afterwards, that can easily be done. As for anesthesia... there are many medications available... and not all types of anesthesia are narcotics or other addictive medications.

Did you get your pysch eval yet? You're friends arent preparing you? It's not up to your friends to decide. If you can have anesthesia. It's up to the Dr. Lol. This isn't about pain tolerance. This is MAJOR surgery not a pipe up your butt. I think it's time to come back to reality.

You're not ready for this surgery period.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
