I love it because it lasts FOREVER in the fridge and I don't use milk very often. For real, check the expiration date on your carton - guarantee it's at least 6 weeks from now. Sometimes I can get it with a 2 month window.

I'm a year out from gastric sleeve and there are still several foods that I cannot eat:

  • bread, soft tortillas, anything "doughy"
  • potatoes fills me up too quick
  • Pasta fills me up too quick
  • steak is too dense

We were out this weekend and didn't have time for lunch so we stopped at a Circle K to get fresh brewed Decaf. Instead of half n half (to me = empty cals), I found the Fairlife CorePower chocolate milk in their fridge and so I used that for Creamer instead. 170cals; 26g protein; 7g carbs; 5g sugar (lactose=milk sugars).

I saw Fairlife chocolate milk and bought it, OMG so rich and creamy!

Have you tried it peeled and the English kind wrapped in celophane? It's the "burpless" kind with few seeds? You can maybe try it again in a month or so!! ((hugs)) Cucs are a staple for me! I use them to replace crackers!

SUGAR!!!!!! I cannot stand sweet tea anymore or too much sugar in my coffee. I use only one small spoonful instead of three like I used too. I also can't tolerate the fried skin on chicken. I had purchased some for my family because we had been gone all day and I did not feel like cooking. I got me a leg and after biting into it, I had to take the skin off because it was too greasy. This was from the same place we ate at all the time prior to my surgery. So I boil and grill my chicken now. As much as I love bread, I can't eat it like I used to. Only a small piece every once in a while. I really don't have the taste for it anymore.

I love eggs and never had a problem eating them. I eat them almost every day for Breakfast. They are my main source of Protein in the morning.

Have you tried removing the seeds? I just scrape a spoon down the center take them out, then cut up the two halves into pieces.

On another Note I just tried Fairlfe chocolate the weekend myself. Really awesome!

I love this, Danny. I actually agree with EVERYTHING she said! If you're just gonna go back to the old relationships that got you to the Obesity Ball in the first place, then why have the surgery which is designed to give us a brief window of opportunity to reshape our relationship with food while limiting stomach volume, and resetting some hormones that CAN be forked over YET AGAIN if we're not careful. Why do that to yourself? If it wasn't for a brand new second chance at life?

At living a HEALTHY life?

I'm no angel. I aim for 100% compliance and know that at best, I will only realize 80-90% compliance success. But even then, because of the reprogramming, I was able to reach my goal. I have successfully maintained for the past few months (early days yet). And I ask myself, is X Food/Drink worth the price I will pay tomorrow? Every bite we take is shaping our life tomorrow and next week, even next month. Or next year. We're either killing ourselves with each bite, or healing ourselves.

I love what you wrote here. I am pre-surgery for the gastric sleeve and I have already started making the food changes I will need for after my surgery. I am trying my best for 100% compliance as well and asking myself those same questions: "is this Pasta dish worth it, is that cookie worth it?" I have to be really strict with myself because it's too easy to say just one cookie and then that becomes two, three, well you know what I mean.

Can I say what I CAN eat now? Eggs! I had that lap band for 10 years and couldn't eat eggs. Now they are my go-to Protein and I love them!!

I haven't found anything I can't stomach yet, but I'm not off total restrictions yet.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
