Did you guys read the start of this post she is only 8 days post open and you are talking about balancing berries and Vegs Her body needs fluids and Protein right now as she is healing. It's all about staying hydrated while you healing

Thank you so much.

Take it easy on yourself... it will come it’s hard to get those shakes down just make sure your getting plenty of Water. I don’t know about your surgeon but I was able to eat the funnel diet. I also was craving steak so I literally pulled a tiny tiny piece off and chewed until it was mush and was fine

Thank you for your support. However not once did I state that I cheated! My tastebuds changed drastically after the surgery towards the Protein Shakes (Unjury & Premier) and I can’t find any Protein that won’t make my tummy hurt. Can you suggest something different?

My favorite is Protein 20 Water. I especially like the Grape flavor. I usually get it at my local Rite-Aid. I have also spotted it in Walgreen's and some CVS stores. My cousin spotted it in costco. There's also Amazon, of course,

I find it MUCH easier to drink than other protein drinks/shakes.

Okay so how are you with just plain milk?

I too despaired of getting in enough Protein initially, and plain fairlife milk got me through many days
Not only is milk very good for staying hydrated, the protein content makes it a win/win if your tummy can tolerate it

Agree!

That’s why I will endlessly post about my 4-6 week love affair with milk. 🤣🤣

I will be glad when I progress to real food. Right now it’s just horrible.

I actually found it easier to get all my Protein in when I was on 3 shakes a day. Once I progressed to food the small intakes of food were super filling and each meal is only small amounts of protein. Once you get through the first couple weeks it definitely starts to get easier. Just stick with the plan and you will do fine. I'm sorry you're struggling so badly now.

If you have access you may want to consider seeing a therapist our emotional relationships with food don’t end because of the surgery it’s a real struggle

I’m sorry this has nothing to do with emotional eating. I have just recently had surgery. I couldn’t get anything down. However thanks to some fantastic people with their helpful insight I am trying different things! Thanks

I think the emotional toll on your is harder although we all share a similar thing to different extents post surgery. We ALL are in your position. But not all of us are effected quite so strongly by the surgical reality of having an altered anatomy.

We ALL have a different experience eating and drinking and have surgical wounds that need to heal.

I'm glad you are finding some relief from some of the suggestions BPs have made! It really does get better. I honestly think you are dealing with feeling like a victim for "needing" to have this surgery. It truly helps to know you can step out of the victim position into a power position so you have control of your life back. And you won't believe how normal you will feel 1 year or 18 months from now. I promise.

Honestly I didn’t do any Protein Shakes as I didn’t like them. The first few weeks I was just in survival mode. I probably barely got any Protein daily. I just did whatever I could to get through the days.

I know what you mean. I don't care for the Protein Shakes either. That's why I drink Protein 2O. It's Water & is easier to drink & get my protein in.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
