I'm 4 weeks post-op and I feel like I've lost control and I really need help getting it back.

My in-laws came when I was only 2 weeks post-op and I spent much of the next 2 weeks falling off the wagon. It was a mess of trying to just get by on what I could as we drove them all around site seeing, during their visit.

Now that they are gone I feel incredibly lost and I SO badly want to get back on track before I ruin everything but I have no idea how. Help!!!!

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are doing great and everyone is different. Every day is a fresh new day and a chance to try again! If you have a dietitian, give them a call and they may be able to provide guidance. If not call your doctor’s office. Just remember no one is perfect and a lot of people feel the way you do and need direction. It’s new for everyone. We weren’t born knowing how to work this program. It’s a learning experience for everyone who has had the surgery. It’s going to be ok!

Ok, yes! Be hard on yourself. WTF? Seriously. Call your surgeon and get a referral to your RD and to the bariatric counselor. Start therapy now. This may sound harsh? But you are 4 WEEKS post op! This is the "easiest" and the "hardest" you will ever have it and the time you will feel LEAST like eating in your entire journey. Cuz barring complications like it sounds like you're asking for, your restriction will get increasingly less and less as the months go by and you continue to heal and evolve. You either take care of your food/behavior problems now? Or you could be doomed to either never see goal, or regain.

Tough? Fu*k yes. I am being tough and shocking. I hope it shocks you into getting a grip and getting real with your bad choices.

It begs to be asked...Why did you have this life-changing surgery if you weren't ready to get serious about living a new life? Ask yourself, WHAT IS YOUR WHY? WHY did you want the surgery? WHY did you want a new lease on life? How important are YOU? How important is your marriage? Your LIFE?

:(

(Seriously one of the saddest posts I've ever read and I've read a bunch including a post-op eating pizza at 4 days.)

Don't panic. You can get back on track. You were pretty vague. How did you fall off the wagon? Was it too much food, the wrong foods, alcohol? If you provide more detail, we can be more helpful.

Use this as a learning experience and a wake up call. You have to go into each new situation with a plan. You just can't "wing it" and hope for the best. Always carry a Protein Shake with you as a back up. Determine ahead of time that you are not eating anything that is not on the plan. Period. This has gotten me through a lot of parties and social situations without falling off the wagon.

This is a time to reflect about what you could have done differently and what you will do differently next time. You CAN turn this into a positive.

You can do it! Toss everything thats problematic, find your original instructions and go hard core! They usually look like:

Breakfast : Water, tea, Protein Shake

Snack: Vitamins & meds 😂

lunch : yogurt, broth, water, tea

Snack: Jello

Dinner: ricotta bake, Protein shake, water, tea

Snack: popsicle

Extra snack: water, sleep 😂

Good Luck 💜

RESET! I agree that there should be some calls to your NUT team/Doc office...I am going to a counselor (before and still)...She reminds me that I have done a lot in the last year and to stay the course. Self-love is crucial, but support is so much needed for us in the journey. I hope you have some support or a way to find some! Good luck!

Also, I found Dr. Voung's videos online (search him -- add a gastric sleeve to his name). He is hilarious but very informative! Maybe worth watching a few of his videos!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
