Just hold on - It really is normal to feel what you’re feeling. Once you see the weight continue to drop off, you will fell different. The recuperation from surgery is no joke. Since you have fasted for so long and (depending what your doctor instructed you are probably eating purée food), you have released all of the toxins from pre surgery. This is really a chemical change and you’ll feel not so good but it’s just for now-not for always.

You will make it ! You will feel differently when you eat real food. One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at time. You will make it and you’ll tell others that there is a light at the end of this journey. It will be alright.

There are TONS of good indoor exercise videos for free on YouTube. Just type in "Indoor exercises for seniors" or something similar. I did a 10-minute one on there last night for using dumbbells and toning my arms. I also belong to AARP and they have tons of 2-10 minute exercise videos for seniors, and depending on if you're on Medicare and have Silver Sneakers, Silver Sneakers has online free at-home fitness videos as well. I especially like Denise Austin.

I bought the bracelet from someone on Etsy years ago. They normally made bracelets & I told her what I needed. Now that I’ve lost so much weight I can slip it off!

What worked for me after some regain was to combine 'time restricted feeding' (i.e. intermittent fasting) with a low carb/low insulin diet plan. I skipped breakfast and only ate two meals a day, at Noon and by 6pm. This let me 'fast' for 18 hours per day. I ate about 3-4 oz. of protein (beef, chicken, fish, etc.) and green vegetables such as green beans, broccoli, salad, etc. for each meal. I was able to drop close to 20 pounds doing this in a couple months.
The basis of this is the insulin control program developed by Dr. Jason Fung. You can search his name on the internet and find a lot of useful information. He is the author of the book The Obesity Code.

I agree with @GradyCat. You probably have not stretched your stomach out. Those calorie calculators are pretty much fiction. So much depends on your height, age, gender, activity level, weight, etc.
The first thing to do is track EVERYTHING you eat and drink, to see where you are. Talk to your nutritionist/dietician. Don't be embarrassed; this is incredibly common especially during COVID. They have seen this before, I guarantee it. Talk to them about how many calories you need to lose weight and what your macros should be. I was told not to do a keto diet as the fat is too high. I currently try to reduce the amount of carbs I eat and make the carbs I do it complex carbs or fruit/veggies. For me, it's still hard to get much carbs in since I'm still trying to get enough protein at 4 months out.
Don't try to be perfect: aim for 80% of your food being "healthy" with 20% "fun", or maybe 90-10 if that feels better. If you try to be 100% perfect, you will set yourself up for failure.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi y’all! I’m Brittany. I’m a stay at home wife and mom of two littles. I suffer from hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s, PCOS and a benign pituitary tumor, all of which affect my weight and overall quality of life.

I have wanted to have gastric surgery for upwards of 11 years, but the timing was never right. After several failed attempts at losing weight, I finally decided it was time to get serious about surgery. I joined a couple of bariatric pages on Facebook, and just sat back and watched for several months. I initially reached out to a surgeon here in San Antonio, but after learning that my insurance wouldn’t cover the surgery and realizing the cost of the procedure out of pocket, I became very discouraged. However, I had read many testimonials of people who went to Mexico to have their surgery performed. I kept hearing of one place in particular, Oasis of Hope in Tijuana. After doing loads of research, I decided to reach out to them. Within a couple of weeks, I had my surgery date for June 1st! I began my pre-op diet 30 days before surgery. The LSD was a total of 25 days, and the clear liquids phase was a total of 5. The liquid phase is NO JOKE. That ish is ROUGH. ?

I’m now 17 days post-op and have lost a total of 31 pounds! It’s a struggle to get my protein and liquids in, as I still haven’t learned the tricks to making sure what I’m eating doesn’t cause discomfort. I am quite fatigued, and am considering going to have IV therapy to get me over this hump. However, I’m still so happy with my decision, and I am so excited to see what the future holds!

I'm an RNY'er, so I'm not sure if the DS'ers are on a similar diet, but if so, I'd go back to the way you were eating at first (not all the way back to all liquid or pureed stuff, but I mean the protein first, then veggies - and then, if you still have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or whole-grain carb). If your system can't handle the fat (I have issues with fatty things, too), then do lean proteins - like chicken, turkey, fish, and low-fat dairy. Although again, I had RNY, so our recommended diets might be different. To be sure, I'd ask the dietitian at your clinic if at all possible...

I'm having problems with binge eating too. My husband keeps trying to get me to eat when I'm not hungry. If you have a lot of people in the house and they bring their goodies into the house you might ask them to keep them in their rooms. You could write their names on the bags, so it reminds you that their goods don't belong to you.
Most of all be kind to yourself, You have eaten some food, gain a few pounds. you haven't killed anyone

I'm actually on medication for mine as I cannot control it with diet. However, they have suggested to me a very low carb/low sugar diet. I have found that I cannot eat most fruit, but I have to eat 1/4 of a banana a couple of times a week for muscle cramps. I eat protein first, (non-starchy) vegetables second, and if I'm still hungry eat the carb. Small meals 6 times a day and a bedtime snack. I also have a freestyle libre which helps identify my lows and trends. Being able to visualize on the meter has really impacted what I eat and has helped very much! I love that thing!

    Hi all!

I am 18 months post gastric bypass. The experience has been great and I have not had any complications. My biggest issue is reactive hypoglycemia. When I eat too much sugar and/or carbs, my blood sugar tanks about an hour after. Does anyone else struggle with this? Any tips or tricks to better manage? I know it is completely diet related.
  23. Care
I reached my doctor's predicted weight (130 lbs) at about 9 months out. MY first "goal" weight at 11 months out. At my last visit in Aug (it was considered my 2 yr visit even though it was only 22 months) I was at 103% loss of excess weight. I'm now 8 lbs below what was considered my "optimal" weight but haven't calculated what percent that is.
  24. Care
K, so both me and my surgeon calculated excess weight using the BMI 25 baseline.
He (and online literature) told me statistically sleeve patients on average lose 60-70% of their excess weight, and this would be considered a successful result. I'm 5'2", and 60-70% excess weight for me calculates at a 65lb loss. 100% excess weight would have been 99 lbs. I lost a total of 120 (i did lose more if you count my lowest weight about a year ago, but that didn't last long)
So to answer your original question about how much excess weight folks have lost in stages, here are my stats, percentages displayed as cumulative:
Note that everyone's results will differ greatly, as we are all so different!
during 2 week pre-op: 12% 1 month: 34% 3 months: 64% 6 months: 98% 7 months (stopped trying to lose): 107% today (2+ years post op): 119% As mentioned, there was a point almost a year ago that I was at 128% excess weight lost, but that didn't last long and it was just after I had plastics and wasn't eating, so....yeah.
I've basically maintained 119% excess weight lost (give or take a couple percentage points) for about 18 months.
So far so good...but we'll see what the next couple years will be like...
