Vitamin Struggle!!

Recommended Posts

So I am 3 months PO and am STRUGGLING TO TAKE my Vitamins. They make me nauseous. I make sure that I take them with food, I try to take them before bed and in the morning.

I have tried Bariatric Fusion chewables, bariatric fusion Multi-Vitamin tablets and alive vitamins.

I had labs drawn today to check my levels, but I have missed vitamins every day for a week before that. 😕

What are you taking that's gentler?

Anyone suffer with intense nausea from vitamins?

I use the PatchMD Patches. I take way too many other pills. The patches are so easy!

I use opurity sleeve and bypass optimized multi and opurity calcium citrate both chewable. They both actually taste good and I do not get nauseous as long as I take the multi with food.

They are both made by Unjury and contain no ingredients from China. Very well priced too.

Funny i just changed my Vitamins today to the bariatric chewables. I'm 5 weeks postop and i started with the Multivitamin pills, they are too large for me to swallow. I have a hard time swallowing medium - large pills. Then i tried the multivitamin crystals, you mix with Water. This took forever to drink. So now I'm trying the chewables. We'll see!!! I think it's important to find the right combo for you. The Patches might work for you too.

I ordered the Bariatric Pal calcium chews in the caramel flavour and they are so good. I am going to see what other ones they do, because this is really helping me to get my Vitamins in where before I really struggled.

Update- my labs are all perfect. I haven't taken Vitamins in a week. I did purchase some bariatric vitamins at my doctor's office, and took one today and didn't get nauseous.

My cholesterol is elevated though!!! How in the heck!

Did your doctor not give you an idea why it might be high?

I was just talking to someone else on another thread about gallbladder issues - it can happen when cholesterol is chucked out into your system, which happens during rapid weight loss. I wonder if there is a link to elevated cholesterol in your case? Just speculation on my part... I have no clue.

The doc said that it is likely from the rapid weight loss, I don't eat much outside of the guidelines. A few days ago, I ate 5 candy corn. But really truly behave 99.9% of the time. I have really been examining my diet to make sure I'm doing it right.

Have you been doing Keto or anything like that? Apparently that can temporarily push up your cholesterol too, but like your doctor said, I bet it's just from the rapid weight loss.

I haven't been doing keto on purpose. The current guidelines from my doc are fruit, veggies, and meat. It's okay for me to do 1 protien shake or bar a day (getting me to focus on getting nutrients and protien from whole foods) . I don't do very much fruit because of the sweetness. I've been leaning towards and loving strawberries and berries in general.

I suppose one thing that I have a few times a week that I love Is Peanut Butter.

It doesn't sound like your doctor is worried, so I wouldn't worry.

I found this article for you https://www.livestrong.com/article/500114-can-losing-weight-raise-your-cholesterol-temporarily/

I'm 35 days post-op and having the same issue, I'm going to try the Celebrate chewables with Iron in orange flavor because those have great reviews and people on here have recommended them.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
